The new KRS-One / Marley Marl cd dropped last week. I picked it up on Sunday, it's fucking fire.
The intriguing thing from a production standpoint is that Marley used virtually no samples at all. It still sounds pretty damn tight though.
KRS kills it with the lyrics (of course).
If you get it, find the version with the four bonus tracks, there's a Stop the Violence Part 2 that is dope.

I just went to cdnow.com and checked out the samples that have and honestly not intrigued at all!!!!! shit doesnt sound dope what so ever....I feel KRS just put this out because he needs some money or whatever...really by the samples it doesnt sound good.....at least not to me....im not gonna cop it ...

It's about as far as possible from Lords of the Underground and LL.
The intriguing thing to me is that Marley basically invented chopped drums, making a cd with no samples at all.
I think the two of them combined pull it off. It does take two or three listens to overcome the fact that it's not the kind of Marley beats you're used to hearing...
I'd give it a 8/10. Listen to it front to back, once, wait two days, listen to it again, then talk...
We're all kind of spoiled here in the Ill though, I think some of the non sampling beat makers on this site are as good as 99% of the people who lay it down professionally...
