Bro, fr, stay away from this shit. If you can manage to use social media for your work only it can boost you up, but stay away from reels, shorts n shit like that.

I experience this shit rn, since i been watching YouTube shorts a lot, you kinda become a robot after some time, like, i want to browse for samples or some tracks and before i consciously realize it im like 10 YT shorts in before focussing on my initial task and even then my mind wanders off.

I @Crispifier @Iron Keys would give anything to have the "talk to people face to face and live life (but be discerning about it)" ethos of the 90's and early 00's pre-social media again.

The other side I hate is that social media turned "music" to aural wallpaper and I hate that music exists solely to sell a product as opposed to expression(s) of human emotion(s). Fuck pleasing algorithm Gods.

I saw an articles aaaaaaaaaaaaaaages ago. Like a decade+ saying that they believed music would eventually become just "Soundvertising" where songs would essentially just be titled, for example "Pepsi" or fuck knows, "Pepsi Love" which would see Beyonce for example using that brand name as the focus of the song. Not so overtly as a literal singing advert... but in a similar way a rapper might make a song rapping about Hennessy. Except every song would start becoming a product reference, or lyrical product placement.

Pro Tip: if you're on some kind of level, doing such can be great way of obtaining sponsorship/or funding from said companies.

Imo ppl should talk about it in music, but i dont see many artists do this, all they do is, if even, give shitty interviews n shit and then bounce out tracks that fall into the scheme of just "selling a product"

Dont just hate, do something while you can. This aint directed only at you but at everyone having a problem with nowadays shit. Talk through music.

The St.Ides commercials back in the days come str8 to mind. The Wu-Tang one was dope af tho.

But in german rap its already a big part, like the rappers already get paid to advertise certain brand, same for US rap too, "Gucci gang" n shit like that. Its already there, if you pay attention artists advertise for the same brands over and over again.

For a tragic example, just checkout the Snoop Dogg Just Eat adverts --- though, I think Snoop has such a character and playful nature that it doesn't harm his brand how it could for another artist.

I mean, if artists of any kind do commercials idgaf. But if they put ads in their songs, i have a big problem with that.

Referring back to german rap as an example for a long time those dudes praised the same casino, brand of clothes and stuff like that. They werent connected to eachother and often the theme of the track had nothing to do with the stuff they made ads for, but still they snuck in some lines in their tracks to advertise this bs.

I @DPrezd Beggar enjoyed the Ides ads (but do you remember when The Coup dissed ‘em) and @Iron Keys props to Darryl Cobbin for

Im not touching this one
You can talk/write bout it till your tongue falls out/your fingers fall off.

I feel like just by talking/writing aint shit gon change.

Ppl follow movements and imo as long as there aint no such movement big/inspiring enough its wasted energy.

Artists aware of whats going on should start to open their mouths, but cant cuz devils dick too deep in. ha.

i mean the main point of the video is essentially that the way we live online is rigged, we never face any opposing viewpoints. theres an algorithm that filters out any information you wont like to better hook you on what ever social media you use. the scary part of this is that it causes people to reinforce their own beleifs and futher divides society. none of the tech companies give a shit about truth they will always give you the impression ur right.... like even if i decide to delve down a rabbithole like this where its stuff criticising social media the youtube algorythm will detect it and start reccomending me more stuff similar to this. combine this with the fact that we almost have the tech to deepfake politicians and you can see how this might be a huge problem for future generations. its getting to a point where knowing whats real or true is getting really hard.

in response to how this will affect music i wonder if an artist is just another influencer when all is said and done like i think with the tic toc generation the actual content or what you produce is starting to become irrelevant the main goal is how much selling power you give to ur advertisers. i dunno its interesting to ponder where art and music fit in in a technocratic ultra capitalist society

yeah but the mental health aspect is 100% real our attention span globaly is getting worse and worse (mind u i already have adhd so it was pretty fucked to begin with) but like 99% of the world population is suffering from addiction to what ever apps they use and arn't even aware of it, just cruising for that next sweet hit of dopamine when someone likes/shares their video or when they scroll through tictoc, insta , facebook, etc etc. all these apps are made to be as addictive as possible.. and like i'm just as much a part of it as anyone cuz i can easily sit for hours just consuming content

It is true, as i mentioned in my first post, i experience it rn. Its sick, like you wanna do something and your mind goes all over the place, lets say you want to make a beat and have your phone laying around, you ll check that fkin shit every 2 minutes and wont even notice how dumb/counterproductive it is.
All this information spam from external sources make your brain go: "yooo bruh, ima get input from outside, i can chill my ass and dont need to come up with solutions for problems on my own, just google it, biatch".

Its as bad as smoking, once hooked its fking difficult to escape that. But never impossible.

@Crispifier i think it's more to do with internet culture, and this realisation, and somewhat acceptance, that people can be absolute pieces of shit on the internet with no repercussions. When majority of these people would not dare talk like that in real life or get clapped or chinged.

This coupled with lefty bullshit has led to a snarky bitchy malicious soundbite racism/sexism/whatever isms being thrown at people in place of any genuine argument. "yOu'Re pArT oF tHe ProBlEM" "tOxiCiTy" and other stupid buzzwords chucked around in place of anyone having any point. It's all attack attack attack. And if you don't agree fully 100% then you're the enemy +50000 insults and accusations of some kind of ism or whatnot.

The way they throw buzzwords in place of any real substance can be witnessed in audio discussions, where the current trend for past few years is to say "gainstaging, bro" at any given audio related question. At least these people are merely just trying to appear more knowledgeable than they are/than you.

I'm waiting for the big swing though, when the big ball of bullshit swings back round and hits all those idiots in the face.
