Help on adding lcd to laptop

Hey I added a lcd to my dell inspiron 1545 laptop. When I close the lid from the laptop the lcd goes off and the laptop. Anyone know how to have the lid shut on the laptop then use the lcd for the laptop.

I believe you have to turn off all your power saving settings.
