1.In terms of a hip-hop beat,what would be considered 1 bar?

2.FL is cool so far(been playing for over a year, even though it doesnt look like it lolz)But the sounds I have up to this point suck, and I would like suggestions on whatever VST's/Software you use for quality instrumentals.

There are some mistakes, I think, here...

A bar is 4 beats, but in FL Studio, 1 bar is normally 1 whole pattern. Normally, when you listen to music, the best way to get what a bar is is by listening the snare/handclap.

1 bar starts with a kick and got 2 snares/handclaps.

Ex: regular boom bap
Kick - - - Snare - - - Kick - kick - Snare - - -
(in a pattern with 16 buttons) THAT'S 1 bar

In Lyrics...
Normally, a verse is 16 bars and the hook is 8 bars...

You know very well who you are <------------------------------------- 2 bars
Don't let em hold you down, reach for the stars <---------------- 2 bars
You had a go, but not that many <------------------------------------ 2 bars
'cause you're the only one I'll give you good and plenty <------ 2 bars

Another Biggie classic as example...
Biggie Biggie Biggie can't you see <------------------------------ 1 bar
Sometimes your words just hypnotize me <------------------- 1 bar
And I just love your flashy ways <--------------------------------- 1 bar
Guess that's why they broke, and you're so paid (uh) <--- 1 bar
And that part is repeated twice to make it 8 bars...

Awesome!

I also have another question.Do you guys take live piano lessons, video lessons or do you teach yourself?I know nothing of playing the piano, and I know its crucial and mandatory in making melodies.I've learned bits and pieces such as the lettering of the keys and octaves. But I still have to learn things like scales and finger movement.

You can find some (I think there's a thread on that somewhere, look it up), but you don't really NEED piano skills to make melodies, just a musical hear. Of course, having the skill and knowledge will help you and you could make better melodies, But don't think for a second that not knowing that ish could stop you...

To me it's a question of feeling... (depending on the style you want to create, of course)

Sorry to necropost but no matter how the beats are made 4 beats=1 bar?

Is that just the drum or is it the drum:snare/clap also?

What about the tempo?Does that effect how many bars a beat must have?

Well the 1 bar has 4 beats.

So if you were to be simple with it as a Drum loop it would usually go like:

1beat-Kick 2beat-Snare 3beat-Kick 4beat-Snare. = 1 Bar

Tempo is the speed or how fast the loop is playing.

NO! Tempo would only determine the "speed" of the count! (1,2,3,4 = 1 bar)

1-2-3-4, 2-2-3-4, 3-2-3-4, 4-2-3-4 etc etc.

let me do this: This is on average...not every single song (hip hop)

Intro: usually 4 to 8 bars

hook/chorus: 8 bars

Each verse: 16 bars x 3 (can be 12 or 14) I change this depending on the length of the track (in minutes)

outro or end: 4 to 8 bars

Okay I see now.

Well a simple beat like the kick+clap+kick+clap is Flashing lights.Other than the melody playing in the intro, the drums in it where 8 bars. And I THINK the verse was 16 or 17,I might've miscounted.

It's probably 16 bars.

When you hear a beat with a simple drum loop, you can easily find the beat by listening to the snare. It normally drops on the 2 and 4 count of the 1 - 2 - 3 - 4...
