Hello all, I am new to the forums and I would like some brutally honest feedback. Let me know what you think of these beats. They are just really laid back. You will not hurt my feelings! I really want to get good at this so be straight up!

Listen here chrisscheidies.com/?q=node/65
Also I would really like to get in to music videos. If anyone is interested let me know and I will do one for free (if you come out here to shoot it) Let me know. As of now I work as a marketing director doing TV spots. So I do know what I am doing behind the camera lol.

Watch some of my tv spots here chrisscheidies.com/?q=taxonomy/term/7

whats up man, welcome to illmuzik. Be sure to read the rules here, you can't post links in your posts. Your post will get edited or deleted in a bit.

You can get feedback in the showcase section though. Make sure you read the rules and understand how it works so you dont get on the wrong sides of people around here!!

Welcome to illmuzik though and be sure to hit up the showcase section.

alright man,
Ill throw you some feedback and pick some stuff out with some suggestion. keep in mind that by the sound of your music it can only get better by practice and trial and error.

crackle:
it seems to sound like it was not all there. what i mean is there was no variation of a hook. sounds like you need to really take some time and focus on the use of your effects like eq and also reverb! <-- this is my favorite effect!! maybe a little more variation in your drum kit. Build ups with the drums i usually use on the 4th, 8th, and/or 16th bar/s. sounds like it would probably do good with a tight bassline just to give it some more expression. when i build a song i will build it as if i were building a song for the artist and picture the length of the intro, rhymes, course, <-- in my opinion like i said i really feel that buildups are key while moving into the hook!! i usually build my rhyme segments. around 16 to 24 bars depending how much i put into the beat. Usually i will start an intro off soft and after the first 4 to eight bars i will make it come in and pound if you know what i mean.

your other beat there sounds pretty good but i myself would give somemore feeling to the bassline with maybe finding a more grinding sample. if you know how to edit samples then maybe laping the samples with some distortion and cut on the filter. personally myself i never start a song with a bassline if the bass line doesn't have something else to go with it, especially if the bassline is very dominent. you most definatly could throw another instrument in there ( i was kinda thinking of a guitar that has a similar pattern to your basslin but a little more consistent).

really, all it takes to become better at doing this is LOVE of it. the more you love it and feel that obsession inside of you to make your next song, the more you will try new things and experiment. the more your experiment and try new things the more you retain. basicly in your starting stages of makin music youhave to always be pushing the limit!!! dont ever get comfortable or you will just get bored with your music!

anyways hope this helps as i remember when i first started making music and there was no one to help me or talk to about it.

also where you from man? music video eh? sounds expensive

p.s. you can post beats to your music page like eg. soundclick and myspace ect... only in the showcase.
if you got a link to your website then post it in your signature enless its reference to education of music

its cool man, if you check out the rules i think it explains how the showcase works. The showcase is open for 3 days and then closed for 2 days. I THINK thats how its working now, I havent checked it out in a minute though. So basically you'd wait until another showcase is open and then you can post the links to work to get feedback and reviews and whatnot. This way it's not a free-for-all of link posting. It kinda builds up and then everyone participates more.

The showcase is the only place where posting of links to your work is allowed though, it's just not allowed outside of there!! Good luck man

I am out here in nebraska. Also I dont really use loops all that often I build every thing from scratch. Iszazial let me work on those things and get something new going. Thanks for the feedback. This seems like a cool forum.

ahh the brave new world of sampling you are about to discover....
