Speaking to a random person at work today...talking about hobbies n shit....I told him I do music and mostly hip-hop....Dude just looked @ me like I was crazy.....I'm very professional @ work so I'm not "Sucio" at all...The dude didn't believe me..The dude actually thought I actually sucked when I told him I use Fruityloops......

So I brought him to the whip on my break and let him listen to a few beats.....He was like "Yo son..you don't look like the dude that could make something like THAT"

That's one of those instances that keeps me going...the element of surprise.....knowing I could still wow people (in a good way) through music.

Ever happen to any of yall before?

Nah.....the only time I've ever had that "professional look" is when I was in the Military. I can't do the suit and tie thing at all. Works for some people....makes me feel out of place and corny.

I got that "you do music, or dj look/neighborhood drug dealer" lmao...not to mention when I meet females they say I got that " mean ass leave me da fuck alone trick" look til they get to know me. I can't see it personally but they can.

That element of surprise look can work to a certain extent....I guess it depends on what aspect of music you do. I know as an Emcee if you're missing "that look" it's hard to catch a break. I know this one dude right now that is deadly on the mic, he even jumped on a couple Dr. Dre tracks but his look don't match his flow at all. In the studio he's a beast....but when u see him it's hard to believe he gets down like that.

ALL THE TIME!!! [in a bad way, though]

People act like I have to be some kind of superstar or have access to multimillion dollar equipment to make music. I don't even tell people I make beats anymore. They think my fat country ass is incapable of creating quality production. Folks used to suck their teeth and say, "Man, quit lyin'... you ain't even got a studio!"

Yea had that happen lots of times but in studio's. Most of the time they think I'm someone's younger sibling or the tech or something.

this shit happens every time I show someone my music (with the exception of these production-style sites).

actually it has opened my eyes to the insane level that the racist notion of the "urban black male" has been propagated throughout most of the world.

I get it pretty often cuz Im always in a suit, but it actually helps whereI'm at, once they know they are always hitting me up for new stuff and getting the word around. Not only that Im playing mob deep right now in my courtroom pissin off country cops before court so they KNOW, I represent the shit. lol
They dont reckonize me when I'm not at work, I have actually walked right past people on the weekend and they dont see me..lol
Conversely tho people I do music with trip when they see me dressed for work.

i have had this happen to me a few times. not by looking professional, i guess by looking too white. i was at scribble jams a few years back and this over zealous salesman type was trying to hustle me into signing up for some crappy web-site that showcased artists. about second sentence into his pitch he was like "yo" i can tell you dont rap or make music but if you want to come to the site to listen to new artists. i guess it was the camo's shaved head and slayer shirt that through him off. i was blazed so i took it as funny, blew smoke in his face and bounced.

one of the times i have been locked up i made the mistake of mentioning that i made music. i had illiterate motherfukers trying to clown me. this was about the time Mystikal was hot, and beyond the wackest of wack emcees on the planet rapping there was this one dude that screamed the whole time and these other cats was feeling him cuz they thought he was gangster.
a word of advice to anyone here that might ever get locked up. if your on some underground hip hop you might as well not even talk about it, because aint nobody gonna know who or what the fuk your talking about. and if you try to get into specifics on equipment or anything else they gonna say your lying trying to be cool. "but" if your up to date on all the gangster shit youll fit in nicely, that and watching soap operas. lol

this kinda shit happens to everybody, hell i have even seen it happen to murs. he tried to holla at this bitch at the bar and she was giving him the old "why is this scrub trying to talk to me bit" not knowing that he was headlining the whole goddamned music festival and is one of the coolest dudes youll ever meet. at the begining of his set he called that bitch out and had a thousand or so people laughing at her. that shit was classic!
