Im Getting To Purchase A Full Production Rig And Need Some Good Advice.
I Know Alot Of People Use The Mpc's For Production And Pro Tools For Recording, But Honestly Which One Better For Production Hardware Or Software?

Should I Lean Towards A Setup Like:

Akai Mpc 1000
Dell Laptop
Mbox 2
Soft Synths
Novation Remote Sl
Gemini Turntable

Or:

Dell Laptop
Cubase Sx3
Novation Remote Sl
Presonus Firebox
Numark Pt01
Soft Synths


Give Me You Guys Advice On The Difference Between The Two As Far As Pro's And Con's. It Seems Like Everybody Thinks The Mpc Is The Only Way To Make Good Beats And Computer Programming Is Trash.so Post Me Some Advice,

Its a preference thing. If they are using software they gonna lean towards software if they using hardware they are gonna lean towards hardware. Its really not the gear it what u do when behind it. If making beats is your thing then u will utilize everything u have to its fullest.

bottom line, a lot of questions where already answered on the board and, believe it or not, choosing between a software or a hardware setup is a common question... so there are a lot of threads on the subject...

So that means, do your research before starting a new thread.

From my exp.

Hardware = Pros: No latency, gets my ideas out quicker, everything loads faster. Cons: I hate editing with hardware.

Software = Pros: Searching for sounds is user friendly, Editing and arranging tracks are great. Cons: Slight Latency, LOADING sucks, and it might crash.

Overall, I use my MPC for sequencing and I love it.

I love my motif and hardware samplers drum machines ect..
I work faster with hardware but i hate when its time to track the beat out to mix. Mixing and editing is way faster on the computer and you have more options with the vast array of plugins. Im a fan of a hardware/software setup.

Hardware for generating sources and signal processing , software for editing, playback and record. Tracking out hardware can be tidious but it can also be very simple, its all simple basics and having the right tools and equipment at hand.

It depends, a lot the new Roland products have VGA outputs and the Roland VGA interfaces look like software (and you can use a mouse.)

Yep. My VS-2000 has VGA. I have people come in the studio who arent use to hardware and they be like damn what software is that u using. I be laughing and shit cause it aint software its just the smaller screen posted up on the monitor with access to more things and easier to see and use.

Yep u will love it and the effects are a killer. I still have to learn the whole board. Having the screen makes it so much easier to focus. I know all the basics. Also u can use MIDI Clock so u can sync your MPC up to it. My MPC controls all my production gear and the Roland VS controls everything when put in the MIDI Clock MODE. So basically when i hit rec + play it records what i did on the mpc, keyboard, ect...

I'm a software slut. Only peice of hardware I have is my interface, my mixer and my mpc 1000. FL has everything I need and I learned on it. FL is very easy for composers who want their ideas quick, however if you plan to start off doing sampling I would suggest seqencing with the mpc and getting a rack

I would definitely suggest getting a Yamaha Motif ES 6/8 because one that's what I would use if you wanted live samples of a piano, synth, or bass, etc and two because you can interface it with other compatible software such as Cubase SX 3
