Whats up Beat fanatics,

I've decided to get away from the software for a while and just concentrate on learning my hardware better. I have a mpc1k and Roland Xp-30 that I was using with sonar2 and sound forge. I going away from the PC because after spending all day at work in front of a PC Im tired of looking at a screen. So my question is does anyone know of any good digital recorders for under $700 that will work well with mu current hardware. Right now I have had my eye on a Fostex 8-track.

I love the Tascam Portastudio 424. Its a multitrack casette recorder (and i choose analog over digital any day). The 424 MKII is a little older and a little harder to find but it has 8 channels. The 424 MKIII which is still in production only has 6 Channels. There anywhere from $220-$380.

When you record say your kick trakc to the first channel, it formats the tape into 8 Different Channels so you wont be able to use that tape in a casette player anymore. The tape will only work in the recorder. So then you dump the rest of your tracks into the 424. Track 2=Hi-Hats. Track 3=Snare. Track 4=Guitars, etc.
It has a built-in EQ on all channels and 2 (i think) EFX channels. When your done mixing, you just record onto your Regular casette recorder or CD recorder or whatever and you got your track all mixed and everything.

This is also pretty hot with the tapes, when your done mixing a track you can reuse that tape, or throw it in a box so someday you can come back to it and remix your old tracks.

If you got any questions about sound quality, check out Bruce Springsteen's Album "Nebraska" which was done completely on the 424 MKII. You can probly find that at most record stores or Salvation Army or something.

I love this thing. I had to sell it but i still use it when this guy i know lets me use it.

Good look Helix about the portastudio, I saw a 424mkII in musiciansfriend for $329. I have to do some more research on analog before I consider it thou. Learn its advantages and disavantages, because I didnt even think about an analog recorder.

Like i said, i prefer analog so im always lookin to keep the dirt, but if you prefer perfect soundin demo's you can do that with analog also, but it will take some workin on.

i say, cop this:
http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-BOS-BR864.html

and something like this as your mixer:
http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-YAM-MG124.html

the problem being, with most of these, they arent designed to record several tracks at once. actually, get an akai dps 12 here: http://rds.yahoo.com/S=2766679/K=ww...1/R=1/H=0/DUI=1/*-http://www.shreveaudio.com/

it should only be like $300 bucks, and get a better mixer here:
http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-MAC-DFX12.html
and thats a total of $539, plus tax.

that would actually be asloid rig right there. i hope these helped. the second option, i believe, would be the best one for your setup..

Cold Truth,
Does the DPS12 record a bunch of tracks at the same time or do they need to be recorded simultaneously? Cuz if they rec at the same time i think i might check out a DPS12.

Or do you know any inexpensive ones that can record all at the same time?

well, thats about $300. the mixer is ot give yuo better effects and a better overall quality recording. and it should allow multiple tracks, but do some research just in case. i am not 100% positive.

inspetah wu, thats the recorder I had my eye on I havnt heard anyone say It was a solid piece of equipment to have. I have heard of the Akai dps 12 and that you can get an effects board seperate for it I think. I assume that boss br-864 is a solid piece as well.
