They are rules to everything man espically music, certain things just dont work.. period

If u dont belive me
put an 808 and and a low end bassline & an kick on ur track(playing at the same time) and see what happens, then you will see what im talkin about....

equed, filtered, compressing,cutting,gating PROPERLY will make that work!

just tune the kick to your bassline and you should be fine...

I use 808 booms for kicks by cutting the release off short and it adds some nice thump to another kick sound you want to fatten up. Its hard to go deep into it with a few sentences, working with 808s requires fairly good mixing/mastering knowledge. Basically you want your kicks with a high attack and cutoff the highs as well as cutting the lows wherever your bassline or 808 bass comes in so the bassline does not muddily mix with kicks. Other techniques include recording your kicks or bassline without quantize so they do not hit at the exact same time which will give them both more presence in the mix.

thanks for all these tips guys...classic i appreciate you mentioning that bassline thing cause I thought I was just equing my low end badly, but now i've realized thats just too much bass on one track.

mikemat im gonna try that out! good looking on that advice.
