I've been making beats on fruity loops for about a year now, and want to go to hardware. This is what i'm thinking of getting:Akai s950,Alesis sr 16,a midi controller, sonar, and a roland jv 1010.Now I had a question on how I could use the sr 16 to sequence the s950.then dump the sequence in sonar for my keys and what not.all help appreciated.1

What kind of equipment do you use when you do a track?
D: Well, l use two Akai 950's and an Alesis HR16. I use that to sequence it. That's the basics of what I use. From there I just go into the studio with my disc and some records. Sometimes I use an SP12OO.(diamond d)

Why you wanna go hardware and make a hell of living with crap sampler that will rip your head off?

Buy a few good sample cd's and use a powerful sequencer like Cubase Sx/Sl, Digital Perfomer, Logic Audio or Pro Tools??.
Or if you really want to have hardware sound (stupid cuz you pay ten time for nothing the price you would pay for a sample cd or for a good vst AND the sound isnt better trust me i tried a lot...) buy a sound module like the motif rack for example and sequence with your pc.

do you really imagine yourself workin on 1 by 2 inch green eye dryin screen?????

A got this guy who got a full equipped motif with expansion board and all and his beats arent so incredible. Its the guy sat behind the stuff that make the work. Not the stuff.

question: why use the sr16 to sequence when you will be using sonar? you can run the sequence through that and all will be well.

anyhow, to answer your question, yes you can sequence your sampler from the sr16.

another question: have you thoroughly explored yuor options? this isnt exactly an optimum setup setup these days. i can help you get softsamplers and sample cd's if you are interested, just so you know pm me.

Well the reason I was bent on getting the sr 16 is because its velocity sensitive and I can get one for $75.Could I use that as a controller in fl studio?

if it's midi yes. You can also use your cpu keyboard as a controller. Me I be on the Midi keyboard with my hands, and at the same time on the cpu keyboard with my toes. Nah Just kidding. Yes is your answer.

My question is why don't you use sonar to sequence everything that is what it is for and I think it will be a lot better than the sr16.

yes heat it can

and word to the wize pro tools is not a powerful midi sequencer. you are heading in the right direction with sonar. it logic, digital performer (for mac) or sx 2.0 or nuendo are all more than adequate.

some people give advice and don't know diddly squwat. i guess it is another case of the blind leading the blind

agent 80 over out !!!!

oh yeh and gfrench is right.... hardware sequencers really aren't worth the trouble they give. ease of use and power shouldn't come second to portability or shiny stage props !!!!
