Fruity Loops and turntable

Hello
im trying to sample from my turntable thru fruity loops mixer into edison.
i have connected my dj mixer to my m-audio box, with rca cables attached to 1/4 jack, and when i drop the needle theres this loud screeching noise.
can someone please help me out, i just copped about 200-300 records, and im dying to start sampling.
My mpc1000 is out of commision right now, this is my only other option

check your input levels, maybe you're coming in too hot?

Screeching noise? Do you hear any music at all? I'm thinking also it could be the jacks are reversed?

Also, check the record you're using.

If you're trying it with "Lord Sutch and Heavy Friends" - Screaming Lord Sutch or "Metal Machine Music" - Lou Reed, this screeching sound is to be expected...

Ok thanks... Ill try checking the jacks, n turning down the volume. And no it's an Aretha Franklin record, thanks again
