After reading Fades Huh article I have to say that it really does piss me off when a rapper is supposed to be freestyling and you can blatently tell that what they are chattin is pre-written. It seems that people are forgetting what Freestyle is. What does everyone esle think about Freestyling today?

freestyle? doesn't Eminem introduced this to HipHop?

(just a joke)

A good freestyle can save a live-show.... that's what I've learned!

And why does it seem like Big Tigger is the only one that Freestyles in the booth? It's bad when platinum artistare out done in freestyling by the host of the show that they're on

super natural is the man.
i heard his battle against mc juice and Juice used so many parts of his well known tracks that it pissed me off.
there are so many "upcomming" fronting fuckers out there that will try to diss you and they come up with all kinds of heavy lines that they made up weeks before. there was a freestyle show where certain words were given to the rappers and they had to start a rap with it. damn, those so called freestyle heroes fucked up. i like freestyling, but there are too many people that cheat (actually they cheat on themselves)

Yes, Supernatural is the man. I had the priviledge of seeing him live with KRS back in '95 and everyone was flippin' out! This guy was taking people's hats, shirt, shoes, whatever, from the crowd and making up stuff on the spot with it. He was flawless. Even KRS was standing there watching and shaking his head.

I was watching the end of MTV's freestyle battle they have going on right now on Direct Effect. Oh man it was terrible. If you guys get MTV, then check it out. I think the final is Saturday afternoon, and the winner gets a record contract with Def Jam.

I only saw the end with a few guys squaring off and OMG it was trash. It's the same with all of them; they usually freestyle the first couple of lines to get the crowd's reaction, then the rest of their rap you can tell is totally written. They're rapping about how they'll shoot you with their glock/their style is hot/what you got got/shut up I slapped your moms from the bottom to the top.... The easiest way to tell if someone is doing written stuff is if they're rapping really fast without making any mistakes, LOL.

I could go on and on with this topic. Anyway, yeah freestyling written stuff gets the bozack.

Freestyling is cool if ur good at it i hate people freestylin stumblin over the same cliches e veryone else does in their freestyle.

I think Freestyling besides jus rappin off the top of your head can also be defined just as a nonsense random flow. If i write a flow thats basically jus rymin words and speakin abstractly i label that shit a freestyle tell me what u think

LOL oldsupreme, but actually, sometimes that might
happen even in real freestyles. me and my crew we know
each other and our thought patterns, phrasing and word
usage so well that it's happening all the time. me, i like to
do that when battling to show the opponent how simple
and obvious his rhymes are :p

one of my favourites is when someone is 'freestyling' and
he forgets his words and either starts again at the top or
stutters with that "damn how did it go" look in his face
while try to remember what he WROTE :D

Freestyles come off the top of the head at the spare of the moment some people get that confused and use writtens in battles but if a person is good enough when freestyling they can talk about things that are presently around them like in detail about a persons clothes or surroundings.....thats what makes a freestylist hot

i call freestylin the quickening, which means to make alive. a pure battery test for the spirit of a man. i mean, give any man a mic and listen to him, he don't have to be good, he don't have to rhyme, he don't have to be on beat, but i tell you out the abundance of the heart man speaks, and words gonna come out showing what spirit dwell in him.

freestyle just shows how quick, intuitive, and witty one can be -- that is -- off the top of the head freestyle -- not random topic freestyle -- i got a crew that can do it very well -- and i do some myself -- we usually go to battles as a crew and grab the whole spot's attention -- but i love to see an mc that come off the top, or switch topics thrown at him, or talk about everything that he sees around him, or even subliminally crush the next mc's ego -- haha

has anyone heard bone thugs freestylin,
krayzie bone was freestylin very very fast, but how can that be, practice man, i thought it was impossible but it aint as ive seen sum kid do it, n wat he was sayin was off da head as not all of it made sense, 4 example he would 'am chillin wit mike, mics takin da hike, give me da sprite' , it was heavy, flowise

i believe that RhymnRzn has the best idea of what freestyling is here, thats how i percieve what is is too man. but the word freestyle has many meanings its just doin randomshit that defines u. You ever seen a freestyle bmx compitition? its when dudes get on their bikes and just to what ever the fuck they kno how to do on their biikes thats just like freestylin when it comes to rap, it don't matter if some of it is written its just about doin whatever the fuck u wanna do on a microphone to express urself.

Freestylin'....like a majority of the hiphop scene apears to have just become another commerical marketing tool. Its a way that rappers are able to get onto mixtapes, compilation CD's and the radio and keep their names fresh in the mind of the consumer and obviously they cant afford to look foolish so they come prepared with pre-written shit. Its a lil tragic...but we just gotta move on. There are cats (mainly on the battle scene) still freestyling and doin' a good job of it...so I'm happy. Just my 2 cents...peace!
