FREE alternative to acid, cooledit etc.?

peeps on here told me to cop some sound editing software like CUBASE, protools, soundforge, Acid, cooledit etc. to edit my sequences. i found something that edits WAV and mp3 and was wondering if this software is similar to any of the ones listed above. here's a link:

are any of you familar with this software? it's free. i use it to edit my samples before i upload them into my mpc1k. unlike the mpc1k i can actually timestretch, fade in, fade out...etc. anyway, if this thing works the same way as those sound editing softwares someone let me know so i can save some mula.

yeah man i used to use Audacity years ago when i was running Linux. Its a good open source sample editor program, and yes, to answer your question, audacity (at least when i used it) is a sample editor and does a lot of the shit that other sample editors do. I highly recommend adobe audition. If all you wanna do is fade in and out and do a timestretch once in a while, then i suggest sticking to audacity. If you want to sample and edit samples and be able to edit samples in any way you could imagine go for a good commercial sample editor (like adobe audition ;P).
