For producers with great ears

Looking to improve my learning curve for how some people have got their kick and snare sounds. I have gone through tons of samples and haven't found the sounds I want, and I know I need to learn more about eq,compression,layering,etc, but I thought if some of you guys can tell me what effects ,layering,etc are on these drums it would help me get closer to what I want more quickly. Thanks for any help

well.

its not likely you're going to find "the perfect samples" for your drums and kicks, even the best sample to my ear could use some eqing compression etc. whatever, you just got to work on modifying your sounds until they sound "right" to you... try just laying down drum tracks for an hour or two a day- don't worry about melody or bass or anything like that, just lay dem sick drumz down. Work with your samples, see what overcompression does to them, see what reverb does to them, see what over eqing does to them and see how you can tune them just perfectly using pitch and eq.

once you get more and more comfortable with your drum sounds and modifying them using the tools you have at your disposal, then you can get into layering, and how volume, eq, compression, reverb etc. comes into play when you're layering several sounds together.

In short there is no "quick, easy" way to great drum sounds, it takes alot of practice. If it were easy to make dope beats there would be hundreds of (insert favourite producer's name here), not just one.
