ok, this has gone out of hand!

STOP AND PUT YOUR HANDS UP IN THE AIR, THIS IS A POLICE RAID (or not...)!

Anyhow,
if it's ok with the other mods, kevin's idea would be implemented. if there are enough contestants, it's ok to have such a battle. i'm truly sorry that i have reacted in the first place - i shouldn't have. it didn't do any good.

good luck to everybody,
Wings

Sometimes this is what it takes to get on the same page. I'm glad we're here. What I took from this is that if you stop trying, before your theory is proven right or wrong, you will never know the answer. I think this will be a success, and I also have some secrets to share about my the software that I use. Maybe 1 real good secret. If we get good results, maybe we can do a part 2.

Ok, this is how it's gonna go down,
Once we have all 15 people, Person Message me with the title and link to your song. Once I have This information from everybody, we'll ask them to Prepare our Thread. This way we can have more room in our thread and not 15 posts for 15 different tracks before we get to some meat. We'll ask others to post there comments under one thread in the louge. We'll ask participants to edit much as possible oppose to making new replies. We'll ask all participants to check in making their 1st reply in the thread a tool tip. What that means is give us a technical trick you can do with the machine or tool that you use. Maybe you found special ways to use your hardware or tools that's not so easily discovered. Then your second post will be feed back. Please keep your feed back for everyone in one reply, your second one. So we should have a total of 32 replies to this thread. It should look like this in your mind.

1st reply----------------Introduction--------------1reply------post of links
2nd- 16th------------Participant tool tips---------15 replies
17th-31st -----------Participant critiques---------15 replies
32nd reply-----------------Closing----------------1reply
This will work if you edit, And use bold title type when when begining new points. And use the space bar, to give subtopics unification. Don't write one big long paragraph with no spaces like you've seen me do, even in this thread.

Ground Rules

The theme can be Hip Hop Movement, with the focus on movement, we want to create the feeling of movement in our hip hop/rap production.

To be fair to everyone, instrumentals only.

You must program your own drums (no pre-made drumloops)

If you use a loop sample as a lead, you must cut it yourself ( no pre-made loops). You can cut from whateva source or medium you want.

If you program your leads from scratch, tell us.

Use any style of Urban production you wish, even if you got something new, just make a good effort to show us some movement in your piece
and a good hit is, even being thrown off balanced is movement.

You must use a track started anytime after today.

We need 3 people for FL
5 for Reason
And 4 for the MPC

what about cubase, people? i dont use any of these items....

CUBASE IS THE KING! YOU SHOULD ALL BOW DOWN TO THE ALMIGHTY CUBASE!

now that i got that out of my system....... could cubase be included?

i see both points to this being a good/bad idea. if anything, this should all be done with, as someone else mentioned, the mindset that this could turn into a valuable tool for showcasing the abilities of the programs for those who are looking to buy something.

i figured we would have somethin like ok 3 teams, 4 if we gonna do a cubase team,we have the same amount of people for all teams, and we jus battle in rounds one person for each team submits a beat and 3 judges who arent in the competion pick the winner.we do that as many times as their are people and which ever teams has the most wins.WINS

Now this all sounds like a nice fun idea (which I will sit at the side and watch cheerfully, this could get nasty) but I guess the whole idea is to test the limits of your "machine" of choice so couldn't you make the theme something like innovation i.e. you have to make the most "new" and unusual sounding thing you can which is still good. This'd let the fruity and the reason users mess around with synths for days whilst the mpc users can pull every sample ever out of their hats (or should that be MPCs) and make something great and fresh. That'd be a real challenge to each contestant/piece of soft or hardware and everyone would be furthering their musical landscapes.

Now I know that all sounded a bit shit but I think you all get the idea, its just a suggestion but I think the results would be really cool.

Whats the point ? If I attend I have to choose from either 3 of 'em and what would I prove again ? THe mpc , is it to be considered to be used as a single instrument to do the job or the centerpiece of your studio, FL same, as a single platform to create the whole or as rewire client routed through the Topaz console, or Reason in the same manner ? I just dont understand the comparison, FL vs. Reason oke, but vs. MPC.???? Is it me or do peeps not see the potentials you have with either of these utilities. In a good setup, with the right piece of mind you can tell anyone you've used either one them three but simply say you used FL for instance and nobody would know. Those who think they can tell the difference may post up virtual hands, but again, I dont think anyone would recognize.

If this is to go down, why not set up a poll for the 15 tracks, people then vote for the best beat (a theme isn't a must), and then you add up how many votes the FL, Reason and MPC beats got, and you have a "winner".

But really, if it's only for people to see what can be done with the various software/hardware gear (because the competition won't prove which is best), couldn't you just add an option to the Beat This battle that people have to fill out which software/hardware they use.

Just an idea.

Fine Tuning the Idea

Getting on the same Page
This is not a competition, it is a software exhibition. Think of it as a art gallery for music. Although the word competition was initially used that is not what it is. We do want to translate the intensity of competition, over to our best efforts in participanting in this exhibition.

Amendments
Since it is a Exhibition and not a competition, any given catagory does not have to have five participants for it. There this is still a five person limit for each catagory. The show must go on.

Cubase is now a catagory. That brings us up to a 20 songs max.

What It Is!
The Catagories are: FLstudio, Cubase, Reason, and any Akai Mpc

Thread organization
For the exhibition thread, we want to maintain a certain order so that the information can be easily percieved by any viewers.

I will post the intro including the link to the songs, and the outro concluding the exhibition.

Participants are to only post 2 posts each

Post 1 is half of the meat of the exhibition. In this thread you will post a valuable tip that you use in production with your software or hardware. Please make this a good one, like the kind you don't like to give up. Here you should also make any comment or statement in regards to your exhibition piece. This will help others give more accurate responses and advice in thier second post.

Post 2 is the second portion of meat in this exhibition. Here you will post your comments, advice, and critiques that directly relate to the works in the exhibition. You do not have write something for everyone, but I'll leave that to your discretion, (atleast do five).
Add any closing statements you wish. And atleast one thing you enjoyed, or something that motivated you about this whole get together.

After these are finished, the thread can be opened to the public, or a comment thread can be opened in the lounge. The reason for this is so all the helpful information can stay together, making it a better resource for others to read through.

Participants need to:

1. Personal message me when your song is ready.
2. Have your Hardware or software tip ready for your first post
3. Upload your song to the gallery space created at soundclick
4. Write your reviews and advice for other participants. You must do five or more, length does not matter.

Rules

*instrumentals only

*You must program your own drums (no pre-made drumloops)

*If you use a loop sample as a lead, you must cut it yourself ( no pre- made loops). You can cut from whateva source or medium you want.

*If you program your leads from scratch, tell us.

*You must use a track started anytime after Febuary 6, 2004.

The Theme
The theme is Movement. I didn't pick a linear theme because linear themes don't give room for much innovation. But here you have movement, one of the Principles of Design. Artist portray movement/motion in many different ways, it is our job to apply movement in a innovative way that complements the production. That means you just can't lay some instruments & samples down and that be it. You more than likly will have to do some research as to how to make sound move. It is heavly reliant on mixing, so those of you who my not have taken those steps to learn new stuff, you have some place to start (research how to Mix). I'm also sure your software/hardware manuals will come in very handy. Do I have to tell anybody to keep the production Urban? What that means is any style of Hip Hop, rap, or R&B will do. Make people wanna put some vocals to it, got it! ...Good!

Help:
We may need someone to create a soundclick page so everyone can upload to the same page for a gallery type effect. The idea is to have 1 or 2 links to all the songs. I would refer one if possible.

The 14th of Feb is the deadline to sign up

Peace
Kevin A

Look for and respond to this information in the thread Exhibition sign up.
