need help with an MPC problem i can't suss out.

i've been trying to play the sounds from my MPC on a basic midi keyboard, but it doesn't wanna do it, it only ever plays a single note, i've tried various things, no joy as yet. How can i do that?

also is it possible to have a midi file playing on your PC with a pattern of a bass for example, sync it up to mpc, where it will control the sound from the mpc?
i was trying to do this yesterday, i had my pc controlling the mpc, but it was only again playing one note, i think it's a keyspan/zone problem maybe.

anyway, help would be appreciated.

Peace

hate to say this but playing samples from the mpc
on a keyboard can't be done ... in a simple way.
since mpc assigns every sample its own midi note number
in the program mode, you're probably just hearing every
sample you have, spread across the keyboard. however,
in the program mode you can just assign the same sample
to different pads and line up their midi note numbers
and then tune the samples accordingly. the tuning is
10 per step. i think the easiest way is just to stick to the
16 levels mode for basslines, or tune a pad bank with all
the notes you're going to use set for individual pads.
i hope this wasn't too confusing.

EDIT: here's a very nice tutorial on the subject

is they key board just a plain midi board or is it a board with sounds and a sequencer?I know with a plain midi key board you can use it to control sounds in the mpc key board must be going into out on the mpc and into the in on the board....The only thing is you can't use the 16 note variation feature with the key board...I know this works with the 2000xl

if you want a single note to spread across your midi controller in different notes: cdefgab.... then use the auto-chromatic feature on your mpc..

actually you can trigger the sounds on the mpc to play with a midi keyboard:

1) assign each sound to individual pads on a drumkit on the mpc (lets say on drum1 for example)
2) connect your midi keyboard to the mpc in the handshake method (out-in, in-out)
3) set a midi channel on your keyboard to trigger the mpc (channel 1 for example)
4) do not set your program to receive on midi channel 1a (or 1b depending upon which midi in port you connected your cables to) -- leave it as drum1 (or whatever drumkit you have your sounds on)

in this manner you should be able to play the sounds from the keys on your midi keyboard -- you should only need one channel to trigger the sounds also
