Whattup peoples,

just a quick question, on that Erykah Badu & Common track "Love of My Life" (dope song by the way), what is the lead instrument? It sounds like a real melodic piano, organ or something, I can't call it.

Any help appreciated. :)

i actually have that track and i can't think off hand what it is -- sounds like some sort of a moog sqaure lead synth that's been quickly panned back and forth

Wassup,

That instrument is Rhodes with effects on it. The most over used instrument in Soul and RB by far. Almost all RB and Soul songs have some type of Rhodes in the background. I love them but at the same time I hate them cuz everybody uses them.

That beat was produced by Raphael Sadiq by the way. If you like that beat you should pick up the Raphael Sadiq-Instant Vintage album cuz almost every beat has that sound. Dope album.

Oh yeah Lucy Pearl was dope. I used to have a crush on Dawn Robinson. Too bad she got kicked out the group for being a coke- head. She's probably wandering the streets of Oakland doing crack right now. What a waste of talent and a fine ass. :headbang:

...and welcome to Gossip Central...:D

Didn't Dawn release an album after Lucy Pearl...or was it in fact before?

Anyway, the Raphael album is quite a smooth listen, nice vibe and not to soft.

Yeah I think that album was after Lucy Pearl. I dont think it sold much. She got a nice track on the Brown Sugar soundtrack tho.

Theres a chick named Goapele that has the hardest Soul album out. The album is Goapele-Even Closer. She's from Oakland Cali just like Raphael, and Dawn. Her album is off the hook.

Yeah Bilal's album is heat. Especially that track Mos Def produced. Goapele's album is on that level except its more hip hop. I wonder when Bilal's next one is comin out?

Greetings Some Guy. What exactly to you mean by Goapele's album being more hip-hop? Do yo mean music production wise? I agree that the album is tight. I got a chance to meet her here in New Orleans. Shorty is a true gem... humble and got an angelic voice.

Hay wassup. Dont get me wrong her album is soul foreal, theres a lot of live stuff on there. But what I mean is compared to most other neo-soul singers out right now (Vivian Green, Heather Headley, Jill Scott, etc.) Goapele has more underground hip hop flavor in addition to the soul. She has a couple of tracks on there that are straight hip hop tracks and a lot of her production was done by underground hip hop producers. But her vocals are 100% soul. So the combo goes well together, she doesnt sound like everybody else out there. But yeah production wise its way more hip hop than some others.
