My first "real" soundcard was a creative sound audigy 2. This card came with an effects menu that allowed me to add all different types of effects to the input signal. Since then, I have not came across any plugin or software which offers this type of effect.

Do you guys know of any software, or hardware, that will deliver these types of options? I would like some presets with the option to manipulate and design new effects.

This is not an option used in music very often anymore although I am imagining a soundscape environment which I could use this in effectively.. but now I have no idea how to get the effect!

Thanks in Advance,

I'm not sure I understand your question but if you want a robot vocal effect use a vocoder.

I remember having one of those cards on my first PC back in 98' that came with the software you are speaking on.

Never seen a plugin though that works similar to how they did for the wide range of choice.

excellent, you know what I speak of. That software worked very nice, I am surprised and disapointed that nothing like it exsist's.. i'll just have to play with a vocoder when I get time, i've never used one before.. does anyone suggest one over the rest for PC?

You can get some voice manipulation toys from the toy shop, and just record yourself.
Its just an idea.

That is actually a great idea. As a kid I remember toys like that.. I need to check the net for this.

you can check out Antares Autotune if u want that cher or tpain effect.

I didn't know Autotune could do that.. i'll check it out when I get some free experimentation time.

Thanks guys

Chono, this is very extreme for just vocal processing but it will do that and a TON of other tricks...see if you can get your hands on a copy of the Waves Mercury Collection. I wouldnt even think about purchasing it (lol, read between the lines). Have someone load it up on ZShare or YouSendIt maybe. It is the best program I've seen on the market.

=)

You have the Vocoder effect.

You also have the Enigma engine in Waves (Diamond bundle). There's a couple other pitch alteration/timbre alteration plugins in the same Diamond bundle. I forgot the exact signal chain, but with a little experimentation you can get it right.

Also, you can try a artificial speech program (as an experiment.) That's where you type in the words into the program, and it spews out different kinds of robot speech. There are a bunch of freeware programs out there that do it. The most popular use of this was Apoptygma Berserk's song called "Cathy's Song."

You can then change the pitch of the robot speech in Melodyne, Antares, etc.

much appreciation!! I did not realize that one could use the waves plugins to achieve this effect, i think i'll have some free time next week to experiment with this. much respect for all of you help recently G.

Is RTAS a problem? I have the Orange Vocoder running on PC through Cubase, works fine - although I wouldn't recommend it.

No, RTAS is ideal for me. I didn't realize that Orange was available for PC. Hardware would be nice if I had more space, a larger budget, and a frequent use of the effect but my interest in this is mainly to have the option availble when I need it. Without the knowldege of how to achieve this effect then while experimenting in a production my limited options keep it in this dimension..

Thanks everyone!!
