i know this question has probably been ask before but how do I get those gritty drum samples like the one's damu, pete rock, and dj premier use?

I'm tired of these online sample packs claiming to have dirty drums but when i buy its just some low bottom bullshit.

I need gritty hip hop drums

should i just start eqing the drums or is there a better way to get those samples.

should i just start sampling records with drum loops and chopping them up?

Try some bit crushing and/or distortion.

If you're looking for already gritty drums, look for ones that has been bit crushed, distorted, circuit bent or has been processed through an old sampler like an SP-1200

Sample your drums from vinyl and go digging. That is most of the sound. Second the MPC60 and SP1200 are 12bit machines and that does impart some grit, but I know Damu and Pete rock use a MPC2k and those are 16bit. It really sound like you need to go digging!

Like DP said, it mainly comes from the source. You can use some clean, dry drums but it will take a lot of effects to get that grit. If you start with something gutter then the effects won't be that difficult.
