I'm using Reason, and I want to produce a double kick drum. Sometimes, the quantizing doesn't really help with double kicks and also when I don't quantize, it sounds a bit off. Are there any other methods to produce a double kick for the drums? Besides editing the sequence manually, which I really hate.

I want like a.... BBump.... BBump.... not a B... Bump B... Bump... if yall know what I mean? NA MEAN? LOL I duno I appreciate the help NA MEAN.

you could do a couple things...

a) turn the shuffle up...that will make the pre bump hit a little later...

b) on the redrum, above the square button that you toggle on or off to program drums, there is a little LED looking thing that lights up as the sequence plays that drum. click on it and it should stay lit. that will produce a flam effect..like playing the kick drum with two pedals in loose unison...

see which one works for you

or...

what u might wanna do is use an audio editing software (like cool edit), and load up your two kicks. u can then overlap the two sound waves until u get wat u want, mix them down together as one, and then export as a single .wav file.

if you have a swing option in the quantizing it should be set to 66%

You could maybe use your matrix editor (or redrum). Load up the sample kick twice. Make one with a really short release then make the second one to have a longer release (the actual kick drum you want to use). If you do this in the matrix editor you will need two of them. If you do it in redrum just load the sample into two of the channels and use the length knob. The other method is penciling them into the piano roll. If you have some sound editing programs like soundforge it might be easier to arrange what you want save it then load it into one of reasons samplers

Change your quantize setting to a 1/3. Start at 8th 1/3 then 16th 1/3 and so on til you get the BBump you want.

either play it or just manually edit it. those are the only 2 ways to get it exactly how you want it.

i play all my drums off the keyboard then i edit them to make them sound right kus i suck at my timing but it gets the basic idea out. take advantage of the fact that you can do precision editing.
