Does making beats lessen your pure enjoyment...

I can't understand how being involved with the technical aspects and behind the scenes of something could make you enjoy it less. I play guitar and when I hear a great guitarist, it inspires me to practice more and improve on my playing.
To me, when I listen to abstract records and I hear a sample that I recognize on somebody else's stuff, it's like a discovery, "Oh, thaaaat's where he got it from!"
But to me, good music is good music and even though I understand all the behind the scenes to an album like the Chronic, whenever I play "Bitches ain't Shit, I still sing it word-for-word like it was 93 all over again! Peeeeace.

also, does anyone notice that you dont pick up on lyrics to the song as quick anymore?

sAfE.

Ain't dat da truth? I can totally filter out all the lyrics in a beat. That is funny as hell. And I have been disecting music ever since I was about 12 or 13 years old. I was always facinated on how these cats were making music so I would see how many different instruments I could hear in a song. That's why I love music in general...all the different elements coming together to make one song. That in itself is dope as hell. So, disecting beats and songs is one of the driving forces in why I listen in the first place and why I love it soooooo much. Without music, life would suck harder than a Kirby vacuum cleaner.

The same is like me with dj's. When i was dj'n i would hear dj's and be like "what was that club thinkin." And now that i have been makin music, the way i lesten to beats has changed drastically.
aint that the truth......just like production, if you know how to beatmatch you analyze every single dj and every single mix when you are out, i dont know a single dj that doesnt.....it becomes painful when people fuck up, cos you know if you are up there you would know how to fix it yourself

There's a lot of lazy ass dj's. Push play, non-mixin motherfuckers out there. Regular clubgoers don't give a shit though as long as the new singles are poppin. People that book for these things mostly just wanna know what you intend to play. Skills don't come into the equation most of the time sadly. Motherfuckers need to get out of their bedrooms. It seems like people with skills don't know how to get their hustle on sometimes.

Word. I think if anything, your really just gaining a better knowledge and understanding of what it takes to make "better music" as a beatmaker, so when you hear somethin that people cut corners on, it may not particularly kill the song as a whole, but it does lessen how much you think it made well in the first place, dope or not i think. Basically, you jsut become a more "critical listener"....Thats not a bad thing tho....

I was going to school for Production,Recordingand Engineering and in the short time I could afford to live in Seattle and go to school I noticed that would pick the hell out of a song and be all "hey that beat could be sped up" or "I woulda put the snare a lil higher in the main mix" funny stuff cause I started this all to hear music everyday and make a living at listening to music it turns out that all y ou hear is sounds and if they are right with the mix or not lol but i still can chill out with out getting all techy about stuff hmm did i even say anyting there was i rambling again damn i need to stp that crap lol anyhow i gues i am saying yes it has affected my listening enjoyment

i have mostly the same experience if not better. with a better understandin of music i usually get a deeper fellin than i would have before. i think the more u kno about how stuff is made the more u can get in the groove cause u kno what that artist was comin from.
