I LOVE Hip Hop whether its sampled or not but Id like to say that Mannie Fresh has a good share of sampled beats and almost all of Swizz Beats songs have samples in them. Pharell & Dre interpolate most of their sh*t...and what Pete Rock track didnt use samples???

Oh yeah...?uestlove is the sh*t!!!

I'd like to see someone say to Snoop, DJ Quik, Daz, Kurupt, Outkast and all those westside/southside boys... "You know what? You aint hiphop." Yeah, some of them do use samples... but not ALL their beats are sample based. Not ALL!!!

Oh, by the way, Vince... it was really obivous that I copy-pasted something from another site. I really didn't try to hide it at all... Like I said, EVEN IF I'm not a hiphop historian... (I'm only 26) that doesn't mean I aint hiphop. Actually, I dont even care if it did start in the Bronx. Does that mean that if it's not from NY, it aint hiphop? And Vince... You said (indirectly) that since I didnt know anything about hiphop history, I shouldnt debate about it. I'd say that if you dont know how to argue without taking things personnal, you shouldn't... that's what gets threads closed... (Read my signature... I don't like arguing... I state my opinion)

Hiphop is defined? Wow! Now, that's a news! Where did you see that it was? Was there a convention of old school cats that stated "this is what hiphop is... and there will be only one definition, coming from NY, cuz they are the ONLY ones who can define hiphop..."

Being hiphop is not about pleasing people like you and the others who love samples and swear by them It's not about how well you controll the turntables. It's not about what kind of beat you do...

As for the evolving part... I think in every genre of music, there are always purists and there are the others. Those who say that hiphop is only about samples, you are purists. Simple as that. It's like that in every genre of music. When a style evolves, different people gives it different sound. Then (I guess it's human nature) critics or some other artists or even the originator of the new style gives a new name to what he does. And then, some people will quickly say that those styles are apart from the original style.

Ex: John Coltrane is one of the originators of what is called Free Jazz. Now, in his time, Coltrane was critisized because his music had no form, but he used the basics of Jazz and experimented. Some people even said it wasn't Jazz at all. Nowadays, well, some people are still saying free Jazz is a subgenre of Jazz... Purists.

And I can already see some one say "But he used the same instruments, it's the same base" Well, to that I'd say that the basis of a music style is not the instruments, even if it's a part of what it is. If someone doesn't agree, frankly, I really dont mind...

It's not that I'm pissed or anything (not at all actually, even if Vince took my remarks like they were attacks, for some reason)... but I cant see this going no where, so let's just leave it at that.

Some people like Hiphop WITH samples, and despise people who dont use them...
Some others are more opened to other variety of sounds...

(oh, and by the way... I do have a turntable and vinyls, I just dont think it's an obligation to have one to be considered hiphop...)

yea but i think you will find that noone sed every beat has to be sample based otherwise its not hiphop ! just that the traditional hip hop sound is sampled as thats wot is woz originally theres no point getting shitty over that fact thats the original sound ! its like rock has guitars you can make a rock song without a guitar but thats not the traditional sound !

whats even funnier is that your the second person who didnt understand that. where did isay that they never use samples? i said the they have made beats without samples.

no but you used them as examples of people who use real instruments as if to so are they not hiphop ? when quite clearly they all use samples aswell so its a non starter of an argument ! infact most of those ppl premo pete rock kanye are renowned for sampling !
i dnt think anyone here has said you can't add other sounds etc !
