Does anyone remember when DMX was the man like 50 cent is now. There was a point in time when DMX ruled the mix tapes cause everyone had him on thier mix tapes freestyling and all that. Now no one talks about the guy too much......I think its when Rappers cross over and start doing movies that they loose thier popularity because of being herd from and being seen less and less. I think thier albums also start to show less effort becasue they rush albums based on limited time so they dont put thier hearts in it. Maybe thats why DMX's Great Depression album wasnt so hot. To be honest not many rappers put thier hearts in it after a while......Every rapper puts thier heart into thier first album because they are trying to eat. Then the second album comes and they blew thier money from the first one so they just want to maintain thier wealth. by the time the third and fourth album comes they start with the trash.....anyone agree or dissagree?

there´s some truth in that. once again it won´t apply for all though.
but i feel that lots of people don´t know what to rap about after having released several albums. they lack motivation, inspiration and so they do some mix of their older tracks. seeing how fast artists drop albums nowadays, i´m not surprised at all.

Doesn't count for everyone as HaZwaiOh said. In regards to DMX, isn't he stopping too though...this coming album should be his last...because he feels that he doesn't have enough time.

jay-z is focused on the money and he has an entire camp to watch out for; thats why he is still solid. plus he has had a fresh injection as far as production goes, so he has plenty to keep him interested. when an mc's raw emotion is greatest strength, his lack of it may well prove his fatal flaw- dmx does not seem to have that same emotion anymore. plus, if i had released "party up", i would lose interest in hip hop too!!! (just a joke, guys!)
besides that, the vast majority of artists, especially in hip hop, dont have a very long shelf life as it is. times, focuses, and genres change and it can be tough to adapt- unless you are the one creating those changes, as per Jay-Z.

dmx fell off right after his first album, jayz fell of after his first also. It's just facts, listen to their first albums and then listen to the rest.

I feel that jay z's first album was hot and his second was too and the same with dmx his first and second were hot. They both were hot up until the third then thats when they started to slip as far as creativity and putting thier heart fully into it. But there are artists like busta rhymes who can put out a bangin hot album put out a wack or ok one and then put out another bangin album......its weird how busta fluctuates so much

after so many albums -- they usually do lose intensity -- i think LL has fluctuated more than busta rhymes though -- lol

yea LL is one of those that has done that. He's made a big come back even tho he said "dont call it a come back i been here for years...." What about my boy P Diddy tho.....whats going on with that bad boy team? He actually had a white rapper named Cocain or Kocain or however it was spelled. They came on bet's bassment one time a while back and Cocain did pretty dayum good in the booth but i never herd anything from him again after that. P Diddy needs new talent quick cause he's falling off hard

I heard that X plans on being a preacher after this next album, I respect the man for his religous beliefs but at the same time I think he should stay in the rap game. I always thought he would be the next Rakim as a lyricist. He was hot straight out the gate. But you're right about him fallen off due to the movies.

word I feel this topic. I used to listen to dmx on mixtapes all the time. the cat was hot and I think he was more hungry too. After the first album in my opinion it was done with. something just changed with him. But im still bumping the get at me dog single on tape, so its all good.

one love

well, we you may think he shoulod stay in hip hop but him and God obviously have other plans (we'll see...) so what does it matter what we think? thats a whole other topic right there!!! i will have great respect for him- more than i do now, thats for sure- if and when he does that. thats what priorities are all about. we should be more concerned with the man than the music, right? by the way..... jay z didnt "fall off"- he hasnt come anywhere close to that. wether we like the style changes someone has made or not, they dont "fall off" until they FALL OFF, meaning we dont here from them anymore, they get no more spins, and radio doesnt play them anymore. the mans style has certainly been altered, but he is the anly true player in the business right now, besides the shady/aftermath camp..... the roc is doin things the way the row used too...

Let's start with Jay-Z, I actually think he's still moving up in the game. He's definately not falling off in my opinion. I remember when he was a duo with this cat called JAZ and the Jay-Z of today is a long way from that (in a better way).

For some clarification...when I said that I agree that X is falling off, I meant it as he is not anticipated as much as he was in the past. Thats just my opinion. I didn't mean that he has "fallen off" in a way that would suggest that we won't hear from him anymore...my phrase for that is "out the game". Nevertheless, X is in control of his own life and I wish him well in whatever he chooses to do. I will always respect a man that has done what he has for himself and the hip hop world.

holla,--dac

jay z is moving up, its just that some (such as myself) arent exactly fans of his newer works. as far as dmx, he has simply lost his relevance to the mainstream mtv crowd that he once had eating everything he put out, much like fifty cent today. i remeber when "whats my name" came out there was MAD mtv anticipation for it.....by the way: did anyone else think the melody to that sounded alot like timbalands "luv to luv u"? just curious......

so dmx just doesnt have the same crowd on his sack like his earlier years. his work moves units primarily to the street crowd these days. the quality of his work has dropped, but the market itself dictates who and what is "hot" for the moment. Jay-Z simply has his finger on the pulse of that market, just like shady/aftermath.

DMX's first album was bullshit except of : "ruff ryders anthem" and "get at me dog". ( BTW dame grease is a joke )

DMX's second album was one of my favourite albums years ago.

So on that track Blackout ( a fucking masterpiece... you really feel the heat ) with the L.O.X. and Jay-Z you see how wack DMX really is ( comparing him to them others on that track ).

Give that cat named DMX for example a Primo beat and you see that he ain't even an mc. He's a fool barking around.

Most of the time the beats were hot as hell and you could put any mc on such a hot beat and it would sell. ( rr anthem, party up, ... )

I heard some shit where Dmx was rappin the same way like years before, but on a different type of beat, it was HORRIBLE and WACK.

People like Lord Infamous from three six mafia can change their style and voice on every track, thatz called skills, like Gangsta Pat said ( Memphis legend). Comparing to the rappers from Kamikaze Inc, DMX doesn't even have a flow.

Jay-z is still hot

Jay-z has not fallin off like DMX, people have to know that Jay-z is still hot in this hip hop game and if you'll still don't believe me then listen to excuse me miss, sick! song cry, sick! me and my girlfriend which even Suge knight agreed that it was a great record. DMX release 3,4 great albums in the space of 2 years when he had the skill and flow to do it but now he has lost it could be blamed on him doing too many movies or the fact that you have some rappers who remain fresh in the ever changing game of hip hop and others who just burn out after a few album cuts.
