My mate went to New York in 89 and taped the Chuck Chillout shows direct from Kiss 98.7, he brought the tapes back and I had them on constant play on my walkman while I was at college.
He went to either Erick Sermons house and met Kool G Rap, or he went to Kool G Raps house and met Erick Sermon, I cant remember what way around it was now, he told that story years ago, I will have to ask him for a reminder.
His cousin used to drive the Source van around.

Haha that's crazy. I used to get a copy of a copy of a copy of NY mixtapes. I miss discovering music that way.

I used to find out about new music from Dj's playing them, or Dj's giving my mate the latest shit or from The Source magazine.
I remember driving to Brixton for my mate to get an advanced copy of Redmans "Whut The Album?" from Dj Biznizz before it was released.

My favourite show back in the days where I found out about most of the latest new shit was Dj 279 and Big Ted on Choice FM, I taped that show and Westwood religiously, so religiously I knew exactly when the adverts were coming and had mastered the art of pausing just before they came in.

What was dope too was just picking up flyers at local shops and finding out that way about shows coming up. Plus college radio was a huge part of also finding some new shit to listen to.
