im getting close to finishing my album, cyclopean super hero, so its about time to shop for duplication. i hit up diskmakers and they sent me a catalog. along with the catalog they sent a form/document about sample clearance saying that they wont duplicate without the proper proof that your samples are cleared.
"this is very bad" what in the hell are they trying to do to underground hip-hop, is this a fuking joke!!!!!!
it should be up to the artist if they want to clear or not clear. getting sued can bring publicity, diskmakers couldnt possibly be held responsible for duppin peoples cd's. they cannot expect someone comming out with their first cd and not signed to a label to have that kind of money. i actually looked into clearing samples, which is a bitch of a job just finding out who you have to contact to even ask to clear.
i know alot of you will be like, just goto a local duplicator biz. but the fact that diskmakers have alot to offer as in packages with the bar code, posters, stickers, and the whole professionalizm of it all. ive never heard of anybody getting sued for selling, lets say 1000 cd's. anybody who puts out a cd wishes to sell as many as possible, but just starting out, this seems to be a bit ridiculous!!!!!!!!!

just venting!!!!!!

fuking bastards....

a couple of cats that i'm aware of, i do believe, went thru diskmakers. i think it's more of a deterrent tactic, but as long as your check clears or their merchant services charges your card with no problem, i don't think they'll have a problem putting your package together. i am aware of a couple smaller companies who put together some decent packaging for a nice price. just depends on what kinda runs you plan on making.

ultimately, try it man, they worst they can say is no.
just to run'em by you

Dog there are too many other establishments that don't give a fuck about no sample clearance. I used them for my first album. Get your shit mixed and mastered right and it doesn't matter who you use. The only advantage to fucking with them is you get a bar code. I have my own so I don't need there's. Spend the money and get your own shit so u can do short runs of your project. Hit me up when u get your shit mixed and mastered and I'll hook u up. You don't want to get the whole album pressed until you do some short 250 runs anyway. U gotta get that shit in the streets first and to Dj's. Create the demand rather than sitting on units you can't move.

That's some fuckin wisdom right there, for real. No matter how dope the music is, it really comes down to publicity, promotions, marketing, gettin people interested. That's the difference between sellin ten copies to your boys and sellin ten thousand copies to the general public.

Yes sir! That's why EP's are on the come back. Put 4-6 of your street tracks on there and maybe one single, then hit every club giving 10 or more copies to the DJ's. Attempt to get maybe 4 bucks from people on the street and if they don't want to pay that give it to them free...they'll remember that shit and if you got some heat they'll support you when you do drop the album. If you start getting shows book'd those same people will be at the front of the stage telling catz how you gave them your music way back when. Fans are like DJ's...they all like to say they know you or they heard your shit first. Excellent publicity!

Just go with another company ... Diskmakers is not the end all of pressing and
their are alot of better/cheaper alternatives out there without the hassle.
