Hey Everyone -

As you may not know - I've been making beats for a while now using FL studio 5 and Cubase. This all worked out fine for me becuase my soundsets were coming from my Motif Rack + Roland JV!010. I bought those 2 racks @ a time where I had some extra money saved up. But now that I have moved (19 with my dad still) I been lookin for a job - no luck yet. Anyway money is short and I been thinking about selling my equipment - Motif Rack, Roland JV1010, And SP303 - And Just Using Reason 3.0 which was just given as a gift to me.

And by Sellling these things I was hoping that the money will hold me till i get a job - and once more currency and beats are sold - I can get the XR or ES rack ?

But my question to you is - Would you do it ? Would you sell your first racks ?

And for my Reason users - Is it worth it ? Do yall even need racks (considering most reason users DONT rewire)

And if Reason has competitive Refills with the tritons and motifs - Where can i buy them ?

Let me know - Thanks

reason definately can now compete with those rack sounds. propellerhead sell some nice refills on their site, they got the electromechanical (keyboards, rhodes, clavs etc) refill on their site free for download for all registered users. You can also get 3rd party refills which are often as good, stuff from amg is pretty nice. but those are your first racks, i dont really know if i would sell my first piece of gear but if you need the money, you gota do what you gota do.

I would Say yes there are refills and or Sample collections that you can get for your Software
the sample Sound companies that Design Sound for Korg.. Yamaha etc aslo Pack these sounds for Software Companies and these companies code the sounds into there interface..they also just make Cd's that are in raw audio.. I mean if they didnt heh they would be Missing a huge HUGE market of Profit... these Collections are pretty expensive though

they range $500-700 Normally containing 4- whatever number of DVDs'

company called ilio advertises some of these sound Designers good example would be Vienna and Sonic Implants is another... they have Refills but if u can tap into there RAW audio (.wav collection) i dont know to explain the Quality is just there

So i mean Best bet is to find someone that can hook you up.. or Shell out the price because few of these are online for Dl matter of Fact most people dont even know about these collections unless they serious on Spending Doe for a Huge Quality Sound selection...

Now asfar as Using racks i was in position at one point i end up selling my racks just didnt need them any longer... Units come and go Software comes and goes..Reason 2.5 was good enough for me i know how to get quality out if.. reason 3 is alot better.. Dason if you have the time to sit and Organize your sounds you should have no prob just using reason by itself... I mean its not really what you use its how you use it.. and dont think im some anti hardware person.. i started in Hardware

Keep your equipment, get a job at the easiest place you can temp and keep looking for another job. Keep your equipment man. McDonalds is always hiring, and you can make in 2 weeks what someone will probably pay you for 1 of your racks. Unless you can't eat, don't worry about the money. Is your dad having hardtimes or just you?

for sure....keep your equipment. don't sell a damn thing. you can always find a job, you have to get out there and bust your ass. If I was you, I would get off this computer, pause on my producting for a minute and get out there and beat down some doors. Its not hard to find a job, you just have to get out there buss it. Shit comes easy, if you know somebody, who know somebody, who got a way to get you in. dont sell shit. tuck it in and go for it.

Dont sell your equipment. I know a dude who does that. Then 6 mos later rebuys, next hardship sales it again. A real vicious cycle.
