Speaking of live performances and the digital thing. As we all know people download a lot of music now-a-days(legal and otherwise), I've also seen download cards of some albums in stores such as Target. Do you think a download card that lets the cardholder download a certain number of songs from you for say $5. All the info is printed on the card btw. Do you think that is as good or almost as good as a physical cd on some hand to hand stuff?
Being on the grind as an 100% independent entity I can tell you that Shadeed is 100% spot on. Nothing beats a CD. We have sold more physical CD's than online downloads by far. People just gravitate to Cd's for some reason. I was at an industry networking event at my boys studio the other week and everyone was interested in the smash brothers simply because i was handing out a real retail cd instead of a business card or just running my mouth talking about how i was the hottest artist since sliced bread. My advice is do BOTH digital and Physical copy. There both relatively cheap. Get 300 Cd's pressed up and spend $100 bucks on digital and you got everything covered. Prolly $600 - $700 for both or less depending on what kindof deal you can setup.
Yep you beat me to the punch, have both, its cheap as hell these days.. Tunecore.com man you can have your shit on every digital outlet for 60 bucks....
reverbnation offers the same (plus so much more in terms of promo for an artist) for a lower price http://www.reverbnation.com/main/artist_feature/digitaldistributionYep you beat me to the punch, have both, its cheap as hell these days.. listen to sha yall. his advice is priceless. one of the reasons I stopped wit the "Mic Wars" full release. I'm waiting until the time is right. Why go with a company when with the right know how, you can do it yaself. My thing is, it's easy as hell to distribute electronically on ya own. Its the promotion or buzz that helps out the most. But that can be done on yaself.
Tonite for example. Buku got a show and I'm jumpin on for a joint right,,,we got mad cds to hand out. ghetto as hell on some burnt joints wit our contact info. I know the joints on the cds are hot, so let them play them. If they like it, they'll find you. i got cats from Ny who hit me on myspace always askin when the next NYC show is. All this because they peoples performed the same night i did. I havnt even promoted my latest album and I'm makin some revenue off rhapsody. Thats without promotion. Feel me.
