decreasing CPU usage

any tips out there for AA? i was recording a song over the weekend and every time i added an effect on the go it started to "pop". it got pretty annoying. any suggestions?

i have 1GB of memory
3GHZ intel 4
1 TB hard drive.
an independent video card
ASIO EMu1818m sound card.

Do you have anything else running in the background?

a few programs. tried shutting all of it down, restarting AA then going back at it and it still made the popping noise.

yes i have a separate driver for audio. still nothing. my 1 TB is solely for recording and sounds.

Also turn up your buffer settings in AA
