Respect...

The music out here has grown on me.... You won't catch it in my iPod....... I still listen to all the dope shit that inspired me to make music in the first place....

But if it's a profession you wanna do...you gotta sell out.....

Lol, what I might do just for shits and giggles is see if I can make some commercial sounding shit, Im really not going to enjoy it, and probably will fail miserably, but just to test myself Ill see what I can do. But dont for one second think Im changing my sound or going commercial, I just cant do it. But hell I need food right now. I might even have to do it under another name, lol. I dunno, "Drastic Poptastic - Beats so you can spit like a spastic"
Oh im just fucking, but I dunno, im gonna have a mess around tonight.

Oh quick question, what tempo is this newfangled pop music going at these days?

Not to throw a wrench you in your tire spokes but if you want to make gaming music and music for tv... then you are going to have to conform. You will also have to dive into other music genres

If you can do this I can help you get a few placements.

Saying your time has passed is bs the structure is the same the sounds have only changed

I felt this way when I was making Jpop music I could not stand the sound I hate the kiddie synthetic high speed sound its mix of 90s rnb and techno/dubstep. but trick was make rnb that i like then switch the sounds speed it up.

Hence the evolution of music...I personally have got to respect someone who stands for what they believe in (at any cost) yet at the same time, money = success in the public eye. It's really a personal decision to stand on what you believe -vs- "selling out". I've always had a problem with those words - "selling out", making a decision to forget what you grew up with and going to whats popular isn't "selling out" to me. It's evolution, it's exploring new areas, it's opening new doors.

Alot of people say that Kanye sold out, Timberland sold out, Jay Z and so on...I view what they did as making a change to make more money. To get the money, they had to venture in other directions but keep hip hop essentials in their music. The idea is to be successful in both worlds. So to me, it's not really "selling out" but going for more success. I don't think we should view them as two different things anymore, hip hop has always been about making something from nothing. In the beginning hip hop didn't have access to the pop crowd, these cats have only opened that door for hip hop to grow. Now we have to decide to either walk through it or stay on one side of it but it's not "selling out" (imo).

I feel you and that's just it you don't have to “forget” what you grew up on to do what's popular. You can still do what you want to do and be happy and make a nice living on the side.
People will say “but my image” ok, so make a LLC cost $50-$100 let the llc rep the music that you don't want to.

Notice how all those people who've "sold out" are the more successful ones.

In music? Maybe not. In business? Yes.

Success doesn't necessarily mean making tons of money.

not necessarily but the higher the level of it, the higher the money...living day to day is success for some, those that live comfortably obviously are more successful, and then there are those that make million dollar decisions that can change our way of life that are deemed successful.

Hey Im not a one act artist you know, I dont just make hip hop. I make dance music too.
Drum and Bass and House and some UK garage. I have made rnb in the past. But then I dont make dance music and call it hip hop, lol.
I was even offered a record deal for my drum and bass, I turned it down for my own reasons but the point is I dont just make hip hop.
The only thing is having grown up on hiphop and hearing the constant messages of dont bite, be original, keep it real, stay true, fight the power. That has stuck on me, nowadays all that has gone out of the window but "IN MY DAY" lmao, thats what hip hop was all about.
