Cleaning Up Computer.

I have lately been downloading a lot of software etc. and I can tell. My computer has noticabley gotten slower and I need to clean it up.
Does any body have any good ideas on how i can "clean" up my computer?

There's lots of things to clean up junk. Have you tried right-clicking the icon for your hard drive and choosing 'disk cleanup'? There's also software like System Mechanic that will help cleanup lots of junk from your system and registry (be careful!).

Reformatting the drive that windows is installed on is the best but other than that you should uninstall all software that you do not use. It's alwasy a good idea to never install anything that you do not use.

yeah first get yourself a nice clean cloth, maybe some windex
spray the windex a couple of times on the cloth and wipe til' clean
oh and maybe u could use a feather duster to dust the dust away

I bought a hard drive that I keep everything on and have a seperate hardrive dedicated for the windows operating system.. this way when you do reformat you only have to reinstall the applications compared to backing up everything or losing everything in reformating. This may be obvious to a lot of people but it's saved me tons of space and dvdr's.. it's also very easy and cheap to do yourself

Cleaning up the registry and stopping any background services that are unneeded will make your shit come back to life. I used to always reformat, but now I've learned alot of tricks so its unnessacary. www.tweakxp.com has alot of tips on speeding up your computer.

I have my own setup customized a certain way and it runs faster this way then if i reformatted.

Just a thought.

be carefull with system mechanic. I tried cleaning up my computer and system mechanic broke my hard drive. I lost 3 years of music and projects. Current beats that I had buyers for I could no longer do anything about. BE CAREFULL. Back up your stuff regularly. The best option is as chrono already said.

Seriously and this goes to everyone who hasnt learned this the hardway...
As someone who is higher on the studio foodchain than me once told me...
"Pick a day to Defrag, once a week.Back up your projects and always, always, always defrag like once a week."
Too many projects, too much fraggin could be the problem.
ALSO I do NOT have any of my music stuff attatched to the internet.
NOTHING goes into the wall but the AC plugs.
Keeps me runnin between pc's but if you can I recomend the same.
I would lose it if a virus ate everything I had done.

Yall holla at me for that System Mechanic 6... It's gangsta. The only thing it doesnt do is wash your nutsack.

I don't want anyone washing my sack anyway.... so I guess that's a good thing.
