i'm researching to find other methods to chop and rearrange a sample. not a sample of sound but a sample of music (from a album). i've read a few post mentioning recycle and soundforge 6. right now the way i currently accomplish that effect is to just play zone of the sample in the areas i want while i record then go back and pick another zone and do the same thing. my main concern is i dont want to wear out that zone button. also filtering options, which would be better to use..the mpc or the recycle program or soundforge6? what other options are out there. being that i got the mpc for it's sampling ability....are there some other means to accomplish, thus me not needing the mpc..just looking for a little more clarity regarding this kind of altering a sample. i would like to read the tutorial on it. didn't locate it. thanks yall. one.

HOPEFULLY THIS WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM.

YO, TREZ

NOW WHEN YOUR TALKING ABOUT BASICALLY HAVING A SONG , RIGHT.... CHOP IT INTO SAY....LIKE 8 PIECES THEN REARRANGING THOSE 8 IN A DIFFERENT COMBINATION? IF SO..... I MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP! SONY/SONIC FOUNDRY'S SOUND FORGE IS THE TICKET! REASON BEING THAT THE MPC IS A MIDI/SAMPLING WORKSTATION WITH LIMITATION IN MEMORY! DEPENDING ON WHETHER YOU HAVE IT FULLY UPGRADED YOU ARE STILL LIMITED TO A SECOND(time related) COUNT! WHERE AS A COMPUTER APPLICATION'S MEMORY IS BASSED ON THE SYSTEM'S PERFORMANCE! HERE'S WHAT I'D DO WITH SOUND FORGE

THE 1st THING YOU WOULD HAVE TO DO IS TO IMPORT THE SONG INTO THE PROGRAM! IF THE SONG IS ON VYNIL HOOK A TURN TABLE UP TO YOUR "LINE IN" PORT IN YOUR SOUNDCARD! MAKE SURE YOU GO TO--->YOUR SOUNDCARDS CONTROL PANEL AND SET IT TO RECORD THE "LINE-IN" CHANNEL.......... GET YOUR LEVEL AND RECORD IT! IF IT IS ON A CD .....> PUT IN YOUR CD ....IN SOUND FORGE...GO TO----> "FILE" ---->AND SELECT "EXTRACT AUDIO FROM CD" ---> SELECT WHICH DEVICE THE CD IS IN & THE TRACK AN .....DO IT!

ONCE IT IS COMPLETED DEPENDING ON HOW MANY PARTS YOU WANT TO REARRANGE OR "COPY & PASTE" ! RIGHT CLICK ON THE TRACK NAME AND SELECT "DUPLICATE TRACK" DO IT AS MANY TIMES AS NEEDED ! WITH EACH TRACK, ERASE OR DELETE THE PORTIONS YOU DON'T WANT AND KEEP THE SECTION U DO WANT..... TRY TO KEEP THE SECTIONS SEPERATE.....THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO CONTROL EACH SECTIONS VOLUME ,EFFECT, AND TONE! THEN ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TO PLACE EACH SECTION ACCORDING TO YOUR LIKEING!!!!

THAT IS A PRETTY BASIC RUN DOWN, BUT HOPEFULLY YOU GOT THE PIONT..... IF NOT TRY TO BE SPECIFIC ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT TO DO & WHAT SOUND YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE, AND I'LL PROBABLY WON'T BE SO GENERAL & VAGUE!!!

HOPE THAT HELPS A LITTLE !!!! IF YOU NEED MORE HELP HOLLA AT ME!

PEACE, LOVE, & HIP HOP

Ok soundforge reason and recycle used together is definately good for sample editing. Thats what I use, and basically you use the same idea that flipdasoulfisha outlined. You take a sample from whatever source and record it into soundforge. From there I take a loop or whatever samples I want to use and paste them together on one page. Next you load that into recycle and from there you use recycle to chop up your samples in any way imaginable. Recyle is awesome to have if you are using reason. It automatically sets the tempo for your samples so it is easy to chop them up. You can also tweak your samples many ways in recycle as well. From there you can load your samples into reason and play them in the Dr. Rex loop player or you can also play them in the nnxt and nn19 samplers. I'm pretty sure with reason recycle and soundforge you can definately sample as well with that as an mpc. From there its just what is your personal prefference. I use this set up and I still want an MPC.

emu - mp7 (drums and synth sounds)
akai mpc (samples from albums basically)
audiophile USB(digital interface/soundcard)
homestudio (mixing)

what benefit would there be for the mpc?
i can honselty say i gotta bang some pads fo sho but i have started to see the conveince of the programs.

Sir, I have an opinion on this matter...

Well here goes!

I may be new to this site but i`m definetively not new to chopping up samples, whether they be 8-16 or 32 bars of lenght.
And through all the people i have talked to and discussed this with i have found that there is one thing they all have in common.
The ones that make the best beats have the simplest equipment.

A lot of people resort to the newest soft/hardware to improve their beats, but in reality the secret lies with the knowledge of your gear.
If you know your shit then you can chop up samples on anything.
One of my friends has got an old Emu rack sampler and sequences on his mother`s old PC.
Another one uses only Fruity Loops...
I only use the MPC2000/60 but what we all have in common is that we know the respective Programs/Samplers back to front.
The bottom line is where there is a will there is a way.
And remember chopping up the sample and fiddling with where the start and end points should be is half the fun, you don`t want a program to do that 4 U.....
That way you also become more critical of your sample selection, and end up chopping up only breaks that are sureshots.

peace.

i definitely feel you dawg. crate diggin, sample huntin is sum'n i have a love for, needless to say listen to old school music. that'll never stop. it's just that at this point in my equipment i'm still very new to the mpc and new to the equipment i do have, tho not alot. it's all a learning process and i'm willing to thru it. but i also want to be productive. nothing like listening to that first beat ya made and those that you made all up until the present just to hear how your style has matured..so i'm wit you all the way dawg. it's just that in this big learning process..i want to produce something..yaknow? holla back dawg.
