I got a good ear for melodies and higher notes, but i cant hear bass for shit. Plus im in an apartment now so the only way i can really bang my beats is on headphones (n i only got 60 dollar headphones they dont sound very good) so when it comes to throwin a bassline in the mixer i have no clue what to do. I kno all kinds of effects to do w/ melodies but what can i do to make my basslines stick out and hit harder?? I've tried messing with the parametric EQ and a filter a little but im still not gettin the results im lookin 4. Any suggestions??

seems like all my beats sound good until i start adding a bassline, i guess im bassically challenged :\

hmm sounds like your baselines are overpowering everything else. Post an example, and I'll be able to give a better example

First roll of the lows in your melody track as the bass needs that space. You need to carve out room in the bass area. Make sure the kick and the bass parts are locked together. And actually I usually roll of lots of low out of the bass as well. Get some clarity. Are you recording a real bass guitar? of course if it is a real bass guitar (shameless plug) you should read my article here

Ok lets see
The bass sound doesnt lend itself to the beat. Sounds like it has alot of mids low mids
Next, What you're playing doesnt fit the arrangment too well (Too me at least)

Try a more natural Sounding bass w/ a more sustain sound/ Not so short/attackish

Yea but its still alittle awkward, try layering it with some thing opposite like Sub bass + Synth bass etc. I still think your arrangments dont compliment bass tho.
