the best lyricist ever in a moment of time was NASTY NAS! During 94-95 the skill nas had was God Like and nobody before or after has had the skill that he had at that moment in time. Thats just my opinion obviously.

Hey,

Rakim...I don't know jack about rapping, but I do know that all the raps he did back in the 80's/early 90's destroy everything you hear today.

I was so in shock, my heart went down south.

So please listen to the message that I send,
Don't ever talk to a girl who says she just has a friend."

Pac!

I read this interview with QD3 and he made a good point. When ever pac was alive and in his prime he was kinda like quality control for mainstream rap/hip hop. He had the abilty to dis somebody with some hard ass felt lyrics that would be hurtin katz record sales.

KRS ONE was way ahead of his time and he was the most dedicated to advocating living hiphop as a culture and livng a higher state of consciousness. Plus his delivery is superb. He represented...word up

ofcourse Rakim was dope too.

Today there are some of the best lyracists ever though...but they get no respect because bumb fucks cant understand them.

Knowledge is the fifth element of Hiphop. If you can be fuck persueing it..get out the game, i say.

KRS 1 had the most socially conscious lyrics, and metaphors I gotta agree with the messenger...he had sooo many songs and was shitting out albums without any fillers or really dumb topics.....he actually was the epitome of underground going mainstream but yet keeping it real......but maybe a lil hardcore for some mainstream listeners....I won't dis anyone but PAC definitely took awhile to find out what it was he wanted to do.....the whole digital underground thing and running around in that hat diminished his credibility with me...but he was definitely one of the best lyracists for socially concious issues and hoodlife, thug ish...

THIS AGE OLD DEBATE.

Their are a lot great MCs, so many categories to judge from.THERE IS NO BEST OF ALL TIME, NO SUCH THING.

But the one MC to put the most elements together that it takes to be the best MC would have to be Pac, if you say other wise , you using your heart, not the actual facts.

Battling: NOBODY COULD WIN A WAR OF WORDS WITH THE GUY
Sales: ALL EYES, MAKEVALLI,
Lyrics: no one could macth his conviction
Social issues,

He could make you party, make you think, make you wanna cry, make you wanna get drunk on henney and smoke , then turn around and make you wanna start the relvolution. He touch people in a certain way.
I havn't seen anybod esle come close to this complete package. Yeah Big was there to.

CLOSE YOUR EYES AND IMAGINE THIS WHOLE RAP THING IF HE WAS STILL ALIVE. IF YOU ARE HONEST WITH YOURSELF , YOU KNOW NO OTHER WOULD HAVE THE SAME IMPACT.

HE WAS THE RAP GENERATION BOB MARLEY. HE GOT SONGs THAT KILLING 80% OF PEOPLE COMING OUT NOW.

You can have you favorites, but as yall say, Keep it real.

There is no debate.....b4 there was PAC there was hip hop after PAC there's been hip hop.....PAC if anything with the lyrics etc.....defined maybe a new era and different style or brought more focus to the THUG view......the founders and pioneers did all of that B4....BDP and KRS1...embodied all of that....but didn't just gravitate around the gangsta but laced all of it into 1.....but he PAC if anything was not 1. better than NAS....2. on a freestyle level not better than Biggie....3. definitely didn't do any real hip hop pioneering....so I can't agree with the people that choose to see anything other than PAC....it's simply not realistic to put him at that level because a lot of his following came A.D.....

Well I'm saying category by category,
Different people are the best at they category

KRS is a pioneer and a legend for sure. He would probally kill Pac standing on the street corner battling. He was one of the first to put social issues in a entertaining format that lead the way for Pac and others, . I just can see how anybody can deny PACs presence, BD and AD
and not put him in the top 3 of any list. I respect another mans mine but not liking Pac is just something I can;t get. His following was there way before his death.

Hmmmm...well, I'm gonna offend alot of people here with this but...Pac sucked. He never really said anything new to what NWA, KRS One or Rakim (and a list of 1000 others before him) were saying back in the early 90's...he just said it in a more poetic manner. 2Pac is prolly one of the most highly over rated rappers ever to hit the industry...lyrically, Biggie was light years ahead of him. But, just thought I'd vent that opinion...

Plus, Brainstream....Eminem is deserving of props because anyone that seriously is into the writing side of rap music and especially anyone that is heavy into battle rap or battle raps (like myself), will tell you...Eminem is dope at it. Fair enough, he's slipped and lost his way...but back before and on the Slim Shady LP...Eminem was writing incredible lyrics. Just listen to Masta Ace and Eminems track off Game Over...Eminem came with dope shit...he is everything that embodies a top quality lyricist.

However, I'mma give my top lyricist choice to....either Tonedeff (possibly the best lyricist to ever breath) cause he's insightful, good with words, witty, an awesome story teller and generally everything you could want from a rapper. Or on the otherhand, if you're talking about a thought provoking rapper I'd give it to Nas...back in the day he could really spit ill lyrics.

I feel you, I can respect that because I know a lot of people I know that PAC possibly influenced them to turn around in a positive way....so you can't leave him out....it's whether the substance an mc has for you is relative or not.....so for me I gotta reach back a little further to the beginnings to find the best lyracist because everybody borrows something from what came b4 though....and you know that as far as lyracists go....maybe you might have weaker lyracists but stronger flows...and versatility and visa versa.....PAC to me was who actually Put the T in thug and sort of put the East Coast West coast Rivalry to the Front, I can say this you did actually feel his words and seemed his heart was behind what he said.....

u cats on here are BUGGIN, u know what separates PAC from niggas like Jay Z and Ja Rule and 50, these niggas are RAPPERS and thats it just rappers man this nigga PAC was a poet to where he didnt have to make rap songs, he spoke, niggas out now like Em (i like Em) and Jay (i dont like jay) will never be more than RAPPERS thats what they are thats what they are known for and that how they are categorized, as far as pac not saying anything more tha what "1000 niggas before him said..." c'mon DASH be for real, u dont believe that shit youreself u got niggas like Dre and Cube who been out way before this nigga talkin bout he inspired THEM niggas would still be on that crazy gang bang bang shoot em up nigga die slow shit, if it wasnt for pac. notice the regression since he was killed the closest thing to pac now is nas not in his demeanor but in his message and his speach, u dont listen to music if u say pac sucked......and the only niggas to ever fuck wit pac on some battle shit was MOBB DEEP, Prodigy killed that nigga...

Hell nah...just cause I'm from the UK don't mean I know less than you. Shit, talk about some proper fucking discrimination. Clearly if I'm from a different country my opinion has no baring...well unless you invented hiphop or rap....don't act like my opinion means nothing. I made a statement, Pac wasn't a good lyricist. He makes a good icon, he was a good commercial aspect for Death Row to exploit to make cash and he could flow...but lyrically he wasn't anything new. Sorry, thats just how I feel...In fact this has pissed me off. How dare you even say that because I'm of a different nation that I know nothing about rap. I'm sorry if I might have shattered any illusions within your soul that 2Pac wasn't the dopest emcee to ever to grace this planet, but its how i feel. At best I feel he was mediocre. He wasn't spitting anything I hadn't heard before. Come on, listen to the topic...this is best lyricist not spitter!

:: sighs :: I'm not even gonna argue about my opinion because no ones gonna change it. I just don't feel that I should be disrespected because of the country I was born in...cause theres never a reason for ignorance...
