Beatmaker vs Producer - Thoughts by Just Blaze

Just read this interview with Just Blaze and he makes some interesting points about beatmakers vs producers. I also like what he says about overusing compression.

Wise words. I had the same problem with compression before. Now I use really light ratios like 2:1/3:1 and just put few compressors after effects, on busses etc. - I've read about this technique somewhere and it has helped me a lot.

Regarding the producer vs beatmaker I definitely agree. The process of creating the whole song that tells a story is completely different than just making a loop and doing a very simple arrangement with it.

The business is saturated with both beatmakers and producers and if anything the old guard just needs to make sure they are improving and moving in a forward direction as opposed to complaining only.
