They have instrument licks, string ensembles, bass notes, pads etc etc. but you can't play it as though you have a sound module, vsti, phantom etc. You're limited in range. You can't play your own piano progression with it. You're limited to the samples and phrases the put in it. So for that reason it's not really an instrument. It's just has instrument samples in it.
Bro, have you used their software or hardware? They are not all samples, they put "multi sample" instrument in it, not just phrases, actually they don't have many phrases at all.
The "multi samples" aren't very good, but they are definitely made for playing your own progressions, that's all I'm saying. That's why they are always talking about the 8 octaves or 88 keys, and that's why they laid out the pads in a "keyboard" style as opposed to the 16 pad square layout that's common on other beat machines.
So yes, they intended it to be used like a sound module as well, only, those multi samples aren't very good. However, some of those licks and riffs, as well as some of the the drums/percs are usable
It's cool man, have fun with it.
You can take some of those "multi samples" and make your own sounds that are better than what they have in bt simply because most software or hardware samplers are better at handling multi sample aspects like sample looping, crossfading, etc.
