dude no offence but u must no really know beat prices. K its killling me to say this but names sell, the neptunes make car, jewlery and house beats....as in what they make off one beat can buy a full set of bling, a car, or ur house in full!!! like 100k's for ONE beat. we all know from todays music standars that alk will not make a hit single and the cat from d12 did (obvioustly look what happend) he did pimp but not stund 101 i forget who did that. for real making 10k a beat in the industy is garbage, u can ezly make 25k and more. timba, nep, just, dre, lots of ppl are making HUGE $$$$$$ like $100k or more a beat cos its a sure single and its gonna be heat and bring sales. scott storch was under dres wing for a while and now hes on his own he did times up, baby boy, clap back, i mean hes really dre k??? and since hes out on his own now and selling his own beats i bet hes asking at leaste 70k for a beat AT LEASTE!!!!!!! prob way more and he JUST started on his own. dudes has a 100k jacob watch and really expensive jews so hes making huge doe. 500 aint shit to what u can make. once i get shit going im saying 300 to 500 a beat exlusive and 800 for custome take it or lave it cos ur paying for my skills, my name, my years of learning and experiance, my time, my equipment that, that cat is making way more moeny from his total sales. i think 500 is fair for now.

again no offence just letting u and other who might not know what its like in the big time. and yes i love alk hes the shit lol :D

True...i was going to say this....those who have talked to me about ths have said anywhere from 20k-100k for beats.....10 is nothing at all and 500 is not even close to alot....as im talkin to some ent lawyers and some dudes affiliated with groups like naughty by nature i am trying to sell for some serious loot and get my name up as well....but u gotta realize buisness is buisness...the industry cats know that....they are'nt gonna want a beat for free so dont even worry about it...if ur nice u'll make the dough and get up at the same time....thats wth the industry HOWEVER on the street, i run a small label, and those who dont beleive my beats are worth alot go listen im on illmuzik...i "sell" cats on my label beats for 25 bucks a track one reason is they are dirt broke, second reason is me and my associates on the label collect a total of 80 percent of the cd sales...own all the rites to the recordings, and i own all the rights to the beats as i only "lease" it to them for 25...(yes everything is in writing and legally legit)....its tuff to get a small fan base and foundation gong out to a buncha local ppl and tryin to push for 500-1k....i've sold in the hundreds but ussually its a lil lower...and im in jersey so i can hope around from NYC to north jersey back to the burbs w/e....there is alotta talent n not uch money....but the money comes in for me after the songs are sold locally...so thats how i do my buisness locally until break thru.....as for the online thing wich is the original subject here.....nah i really dont fuck with it.....i know that online ppl have got recognized and even sold some serious shit...like the dude who sold the "oh oh its magic" beat to dipset...hes just a soundclick cat outta florida....also another cat sold eminem a beat and another sold mr cheeks some ish (i've talked to this dude hes also from jersey) but alotta kids online are even worse then the local h.s....they dont wanna pay and even if they did how woudl they?? they dont have credit cards or bank accounts for pay pal....so 90 percent are bullshitters...sure u could get lucky but for now ts not a priority for me....

I give away free beats all the time....but I charge depending on the person...but there are small record labels that give their artist nice lil budgets for beats....when I see them coming I hit them for the dollars....500 and up....you gotta understand you can't sell yourself and your craft short.....I used to own buybeats.com and beatbroker.com....online selling is real fickle....I got my new site up just to sell samples and beats if I can....more so this site goes around to some A&R's to promo and then strike up biz for some custom production.....but the most I sold a Beat for is around 600 dollars....and I have given away a lot of beats.....100 dollars if Fair man.....you gotta look at these cats with mixtapes.....I got one indie label that all they do is have their artists sell cds everyday....they moved 10,000 units of the last mixtape in like 4 months with about 5 of my tracks on there...they sell them shidd from 3-5 dollars and they got like 7 rappers selling cd's man......so just think about who you selling your tracks to and what they doing with it.......do you think that 500 or 1000 is too much to charge for a track....I don't think so....but you gotta use your discretion.....There are a lot of people selling mix cd's with original beats and they making a lil more change than you might think......
just think if you have
5 rappers- each sell 4 cd's a day at 5 dollars......that's 100 dollars a day.....500 a week....
2000 in a month if they do that for like or 4 months they don't made some good money meanwhile you are sitting there man I gott help these starving emcees out.....50 bucks is just too much to charge for a beat.

i know this is kinda off-topic but speakin of making money, i think selling shit to producers (software, samples cds, etc) is a lot more lucrative than selling beats to rappers. there's way more producers willing to type in their credit card numbers for some VST or "deep fried drum wavs" download than there are rappers who can afford to drop $500/beat. that's rent money for a lot of these niggas. electronica/etc. producers outnumber rappers like 10-trillion fold, plus they're white suburban rich kids, and they're on that computer tip. it seems like a way bigger & better market to me, ya know?

maybe im trippin though. holla.

where you live at zone? ... i see everyone tryin to be rappers... i would say rappers outnumber producers 10 fold.... specially broke mufffuccas.... cause to call yourself a producer you at least got to buy one peice of equipment, these rapperz out here can call themselves that for free..... haha

that's what im sayin, any jackass can call themself a rapper and come up off a mixtape with jacked commercial beats, but to make beats you gotta open your wallet, whether its for vinyl, software, hardware, samples, or whatever. plus it isnt just rap producers that need this shit, its rock, techno, experimental, etc. these dudes spend thousands all over because they have to. most rappers are bums. who's higher up on the food chain and making more money: outkast or sam ash/akai/korg/digidesign?

it's like porn sites. everybody thinks the money is in running porn sites, but the money is really in selling the tools & content to the guys that make and run the porn sites. maybe that's a shitty analogy but that's what's goin on.

i guess what im saying is: the phrase "starving artist" isn't a coincidence. artists rarely make a living from their art. beatmakers are artists. mad painters are broke as fuck, but i dont see paint supply stores going out of business left and right. i think you should reevaluate your shit if you're planning on making beats to make money.

first off their are alot more rappers then producers, but it is still hard to sell them alot to make alotta money cuz alot are broke....i agree that some sample cd's and shit could make some money...but chill "re-evaluate" and "most are rich white suburban kids"...white and suburban have nothin to do with it, and if ur n the hood or in the burbs u gotta work hard to get the proper loot to invest....no poor hood boy shit.....as far as im concened...this isn't runnng ur own studio or having the money to pay for college....this is a few hundred dollars.....any guy from the hood or guy from the fuckn country could get a part time job and get paid the same amount of money....i been in the "hood" and i been in the middle class (where i reside now)....and as far as late teen/early 20 yr old ppl are concerned i dont see much difference...this is off topic but i resent that comment and i resent the lot of ppl on here saying "most rappers s broke ngguz" and shit...man get outta here...very few "white middle class" parents like rap and owuld shell out dough for thier kids to buy things that pertain to rap music so everyones basically on the same level....whoever pays is more serious....i've seen "rich" suburban kids not wanna pay me a dyme cuz they arent' really serious then i've seen "broke" hood kids pay me every dime i ask b/c they are and vise versa...ppl have a limited cash flow and i understand that (check my above reply about my prices) but no more of this whose broke whose rich bullshit...if ur serious u find ways to afford t no matter what...1

exactly. but what's a rapper's expenses? fly outfits? gimme a break. these motherfuckers dont need to buy beats. the demand for rap beats isn't signifigant at all, but there is a demand for beatmaking tools. i wonder why that is? in every city you'll find a store that sells music gear. where's all the rap beat stores, hmm?

i dont mean to dash anybodys hopes of being the next kanye but the fact is that your chances of making a living sellng beats is slim to none. van gogh barely got by and eventually shot himself because he was so depressed, but he's considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time.

making music can't be about money. you'll end up in rehab when you realize you aren't hot anymore like that bald cat from the backstreet boys.

you can be a great musician and not sell. you can make money off your musical talents, but there are better ways to do it than selling beats. i'm done with this topic yo!

i didn't say "quit making music and get a real job," i said "get your mind right, we cant all make a living doin this."

if "sell beats" is your come-up plan, you got it twisted and i pray that nobody's relying on you to put food on the table.

zone has a point... i used to think i could just make beats and shit and get money ,.. but since i have been thinking independtly and started my own business.. i have been coming in contact with way more people who can actually help me in producer career as oppoosed to just staying home and making beats and trying to sell beats and shit.. now im out there pushing my own entertainment company and then when i meet influential people im like.. "yo by the way i got beats".... and its more real than just being a guy who makes beats.. beacause they know im a businessman and know im about making moves and such .. not just a dude trying to get a deal like evryone else... in short .. u cant rely on ur musical talent.. u must be business oriented and motivated to go out and really network... there so many aspects of the business one can squeeze into with out going the traditional "i got beats 4 sale" role

most cats i deal with want every track on a separate .wav file, i.e. kick.wav, snare.wav, melody.wav, bass.wav ... that way they can dump it into whatever DAW they're using and they can do edits...

i got some other crews that just want to sit in with me on the mixing/sequencing sessions, and they pay just to have the cd with the beat on it

*** Zone has a point, if you're in this for freelance money-making, chances are you wont make a lot....BUT, a smart thing to do as a producer, is attach yourself to a DOPE RAPPER, and he will blow up, and you will blow up right with em, taking 50% of everythang***
