alright so i have zero money right now for digging, as i havent worked for a while and i just spent a bunch building myslef a booth and a new desk (fun project...)

anyway, so i have no money for digging, at all. so what ive started doing is going back through my records and re-listening. of course im finding stuff i never heardbefore.

waht i started doing, as like a drill, is to pick out a record at randonm, a song at random, and the forcing myself to make a beat out of that song, just to see how different i can flip stuff... real challenging sometimes.

ive been doing a couple of these everyday....

all i can say is i hope i get some money to go digging again soon...

yea its quite good i do that know and then its stupid really that we skip over records we only do it coz we have a big a choice, i remember alchemist saying that he did this where prodigy would pick out a record and he'd have to make sumthing with and he woz saying how if you were stuck on a desert island with one record you'd make sumthing hot out of it so its just about getting in frame of mind where you have to make sumthing of everything !

Dude,
I FEEL you 100% on that! LOL I've been doing that for the past 2 years!! It certainly is a challenge but like you said, it forces you to re-listen for different sounds - and how to flip 'em differently.

It's like that though. We're in an Age where our Resources and free Knowlege outweigh are ability to absorb it all in. Think about it, since music has been created musicians have had little resources other than their instrument and creativity,, now we got people like me at the wield of an ill midi keyboard and software like reason an fl.

edit"
what i was sayin was that focusing in on the obscure possibilities (un-obvious record finds) will reveal deep deminsions of possibilities and new techniques that could be applied in subtle ways in any production. and what this means is turning an average technique into a new (physically evolved) technique developed by the creator. thats whats ill

Yeah. Exactly what he said.

Damn, Chrono, you have GOT to be an extraterrestrial. You just have to. I can see this guy right now, hovering in the lotus position, analyzing the notes of Thelonious Monk while drinking some Absynth.

Crazy.

Actually this is how we always made trax on my now in badly in need of repair sp1200.
We had like a wall of crates between me and my fellow producer/roomate.
Grab and throw on record freak out dance ,sample small part , repeat.
Freak beat.
I Have to get my sp fixed and make a sample cd or somthin.
Yall would freak. I got sounds for years.
Ok put up or shut up so I'll shhhh..
I'll work towards that.
This is a good time for you to go back through and grab just sounds.
Not "Samples" but noises.Small ones and freak them.
