This is for those producers here that rap. When ya'll write a song do ya'll make the beat first, then make the hook. Or do ya'll write the hook to the beat. Also how do you come up with the hooks for your songs? I can write my lyrics fairly easy but sometimes it's hard for me to come up with a hook. Do any of you use a bar from some of your lyrics and just turn it into a hook? Do you pick a subject and then write the hook for that subject and beat? I need some help with this I'm working on an album and sometimes it's hard for me to write hooks for my songs/beats. Any feedback on ways you come up with hooks is appreciated. Holla

it differs really... normally i write hooks first... then make the beat... but a lot of the time i find myself writing a whole verse over a beat... then writing the hook... thats probably the best way... because then you know what the topic is... i try to make my hooks sound different from the rapping... so i layer it 2 times more than normal say... thats just me... experiment... and see what happens...

Make the beat then make the hook then make your verses I think that way is the easiest cuz the hook will give your topic of the song and then the verses should come easy cuz you no what the song gonna be about already

I usually make the beat first or select one of my beatz first. The beatz gonna control the vibe and mood of the song. So I'll ask myself or the catz i'm workin wit what kinda vibe does this put you in? Now from this point you can go two routes come up with the hook or write your verses BUT, before you do either of these have a concept (more so if you're starting with the verses). I like to start with the hook cuz your verses are just extensions of the hook. And I also feel like the beat and hook are the meat and potatoes of a song, dat the shyt dat gonna grab you. If you're startin out with the verses and can't come up with a hook then, look in your verses and find the slickest 1,2, or 4 bars you got and embellish, extend it, double it, or whatever it takes to it into a hot 8 bar hook.

ummm...it depends...BUT...generally I'll make beats for a month or so and then write for a month or so...that way the beat seems fresh in my mind... I'll try to listen to what the beat is telling me...hum out a the melody, and then write the words to the melody I just hummed out...then write teh verses..

when its one of my own beats, i start by the hook. when its somebody else 's production, i start with the verse.

its all about your style and structure. i go trough phases. i'll a specific structure for X amount of tracks and then i'll switch just to keep it fresh.
