Brilliant ending! Ambiguity is a beautiful thing. Very rare that it's used in film - especially so heavily like that. People are gonna hate, but fuck it. I loved it.

I didn't like that they ended it like that...but I understood it. The last shot was from Tony's point of view...when he hears the bells from the door opening. He looks up and then it cuts to black. You always heard from gangstas that when the mob hits you...you never see it coming....and neither did Tony.

the thing that bothers me is after Phil got it....who ordered the hit on Tony?

how do we know tony got hit?.... meadow was at the door.. not a hitman ... i think they were just tryin to gas people up into thinking that he was gonna get hit... that nigga is still alive and well

we don't...that's the thing that is sooo annoying. After all these years of watchin this show...the least they could do is answer all the questions.

no no...who ordered the hit on Tony if Phil's dead? feel me? and who was playing both sides of the fence. if they answered those questions prior to that final scene...it's a little easier to deal w/ not actually seeing what happened.

there was no hit on tony though ... well beside the original that phil put on tony last episode... i think the way they shot the last scene makes u THINK there was one but it was just the director playin tricks on people. There is no hit on tony ..theres no way that suspicious looking guy at the restaurant was a hitman ... he was too out of place and was in the room for too long (hits are quick, in and out) .. he mightve been a fed though but he wasnt there to kill tony imo .. tony is in the clear the only thing fucking with him is the gun charge and the dude whose about to snitch

I do think they chose the best possible way to end it - what could possibly stir up more noise than an open ending like that? This keeps the whole spirit of the show alive. The Sopranos is not soemthing that can "end" after 6 seasons. It's like the Sopranos goes on, we just don't get to watch anymore. I thought that was the best way they could have done it, really.

Oh, and the black out at the end was fuckin brilliant, me and some friends thought that Tony got popped at the last moment

the thing is this. u might think its brilliant creative whatever, but the bottom line is, chase is not making shows for the indipendant film chanel, i aint about to be like ''wow thats creative'' and let shit slide like that. its fuckin hbo i wanted to see a fuckin shootout/bloodbath that resulted in the death of one of tonys family member or tony himself. so gay kid this show pisses me off

You had someone shot in the head AND then had their head crushed. WTF - people were expecting two guys with black rifles Bonnie and Clyding up Tony? Fuck outta here. This isn't a Michael Bay film!

I understand how people saw it, just saying what I saw. The "gay kid" reference is 8th grade material though.

I heard some shit today from my man,,,he sent me message statin the followin:

For all the Sopranos ppl who hated the ending, Pay attention
Body: David Chase is truly rewarding the true fans who pay attention to detail. So the point would have been that life continues and we may never know the end of the Sopranos. But if you pay attention to the history, you will find that all the answers lie in the characters in the restaurant.

So, if you pay attention to detail:

Remember when he was speaking with Bobby on the boat in the first episode of the season..

Bobby: You probably don't even hear it when it happens, eh?

Tony: Go ask your friend on the wall over there.

The guy at the bar is credited as Nikki Leotardo. The same actor played him in the first part of season 6 during a brief sit down concerning the future of Vito. That wasn't that long ago. Apparently, he is the nephew of Phil. Phil's brother Nikki Senior was killed in 1976 in a car accident.

The trucker was the brother of the guy who was robbed by Christopher in Season 2. Remember the DVD players? The trucker had to identify the body.

The boy scouts were in the train store when Bobby got killed.

The thugs at the end were the ones who tried to kill Tony and only clipped him in the ear in Season 3 when he dropped the orange juice.

There were 3 people in the restaurant who had reason to kill Tony and then it just ends. This was Chase's way of proving that he will not escape his past. Tony would like it to keep going but just as we have to say goodbye, so does he.

Not only did it go black - it went totally silent.

Bobby: You probably don't even hear it when it happens, e
h?

I dunno, I'm still tryin to confirm this,,,but if this is true,,thats hot,,,if not, I will shit on david Chase's laptop. Shit son, even this past season was worthy of a shit and dash!

yeah i remember bobby and tony talking in the boat about how "you don't see it when it finally comes" - and the flashback reminder from the end of "blue comet" to that same scene.

someone IMed me this:

"The 1st thing to rewatch in the episode to make the outcome most obvious to those willing to dig is how Chase subtly inserts the radio ad in the hospital scene. The ad is for a food chopper/processor of some sort called "the magic bullet". In the ad it describes three dishes, vegetables or whatnot that can all be served up in 10 seconds or less. Suggesting Tony was the third after Bobby and Sil. It gave me chills when I rewatched the end and saw that the blackout was exactly 10 seconds."

yeah....upon hearing the explanations....and further review...I stand corrected....that last scene was sick. Still doesn't make up for spending 1/2 the episode watching AJ's fagat ass cry....but that last scene was nuts.
