I didn't see it coming and I think it sucks! Im putting AVID over there with Roland in my group of companies that are abandoning hip hop. *&^% them.

Both companies suck bigtime imo, M-Audio has had the worst products ive come across. The difference with Behringer is that their support is much better.

To note on that, watch out when you buy stuff and the resellers have to switch dealerships to follow the brand. A lot of resellers will stick to their trusted dealerships so support might drop locally and you'd be left with the online support, which often really blows as OEM's cover up known issues with their gear.

Avid has been fucking up sense the 80s to be honest. When they introduced their systems and making people spend xtra money for their harddrives which were BASIC EVERYDAY HARDDRIVES.

They did the same with PRO TOOLS making people believe that it had to run on special hardware. They picked up Maudio to capture that market once the hackers debunked their theory it was game over for them. Everyone found out that PT ran without hardware not only that but better and smoother at that.

So Maudio became a toxic asset, had to let em go.

Been saying that for some time, pt was a solution for people who dont understand the alternatives to the hardware solution avid/pt offered. There have always been better and surely cheaper solutions to what they offered.

As someone who both loves and hates pro tools, I disagree on a few points. PT does work better with HD hardware than without. It also has some amazing solutions for post that no other program has. Nuendo can get in the ballpark, but nothing else is close. Also the Icon and Venue tie ins they have are amazing. There are very good reasons Pro tools is the #1 DAW for PRO audio. Not saying it does not drive me crazy some days. But it has some very good features as well.

Only $17 million? That's pocket change. I thought the company was worth more. I bet the profit margins weren't high enough and the hardware market was too competitive. Also, professionals know that M-Audio and any other controller works just as fine with PT, so they can't cop that garbage on the pros.

Also, PT is used in a lot of audio editing for video -- so I think that's where the major chunk of business actually comes from.

That and clever marketing, all engineering eductions are mostly based on PT, not the best but industry standard.
