I didn't even know they were still working on it, but last monday, when I made a random google search on some trouble i was experiencing with my favourite audio editing and recording software, Adobe Audition fka CoolEdit (you know the engine was always crap, no matter how much ram you stuffed into your pc, after applying a few effects on the recordtrackbusses, crashes were programmed to happen), one of my nuts dropped out of my trousers.

there it was, in shiny caps, AUDITION 2.0. I immediately went to the Adobe Homepage to snatch some pics of the new release. It was impressive, a 360 facelift, improvements on the usability of the docking windows, routable busses, a masterbus, a completely new concept of the mixing console (mixing console? i dont remember there even had been something like that before) and last but not least, a new, stable engine with asio support. well thats what it promised.

so the next thing to do - rush rush - was to establish connection with my favourite software dealer and get a copy of the baby.
so i installed it and hit the exe button... *bing* "please run again", WTF !!?!:fire:
it had warned me during the installation, and i truly had to install the 2nd XP service pack before i could get it to run

so after i had that problem fixed, i got to know the true promise. it was kind of overwhelming. the idea was quite the same, the use of features, the shortcuts, the arrangement of things, but its like, they finally brought it forward to the new millenium.
apart from looking realy sexy anyway, you can drag and drop every window, or group of windows, whereever you want to, to design your own perfect workspace. you can arrange your windows in tabs (like the mozilla tabbed browsing feature).
the tab behind your multitracker is called "mixer" , opening it, youll find yourself inside a real mixing console, like big brothers logic and cubase have to offer (ima jerk off in a second). a right click on each of the channels, busses or the master mixer drops a menu, where you can change into each tracks rackview. input&outputcontrols infront and behind of the efx's, new nice presets (dynamicprocessor > rap presence, nice feature for the nooB's, it sounds convincing), punchable effectchannels. well its too much, youll have to find out yourself.
every adjustable thing, like panning and volume control, has knobs now.

but the main improvemnt, truly is the new engine, you can practically feel how everything reacts and moves faster than before. i wont lie (it wouldnt be in my interest),its not as stable as cubase, after fucking around too much with busses and changing a few effects while its running, the playback will crash.
but i truly got rid of that biggest pain in the ass, it lets me dependably record my vocals without dropouts when im doing my 4th double on the hook. it seems to use system ressources more efficiently than before.
and if you handle the effecting with care, it wont let you down as well.
i didnt experience any major bugs yet.

so what else, ahh yes, theres still no full midi support, who'd need it
a drum mapper would be nice as well :clown:
well, its due to the fact of the addressed user group, e.g. there are heavy improvements in video sequencing. who cares...
that was my biggest concern, back in the days when i heared about CoolEdit beeing bought by adobe, i knew they'd forget us beatmaking kids. i wished NI had bought it, and made a combat version, of CE with battery integrated and full VST support. but it wasnt to happen that way.
anyway, the new version has more to offer than i had expected in my wildest dreams. thumbs up to the adobe team

get it, buy it, test it, use it, love it, whatever, but have it

props to fade for the re-organization of the site by the way. keep it on point !

peace

maybe, but official release was march 17th (2006 ;) ) as far as i know.
and i never had playback-problems with sx, cubase always runs very reliable and stable. i cant remember having it crashed down at any time.
it was the audition engine, up to V1.5, that always had dropouts.

I just got a copy of 2.0, so far I like the makeover etc...although i haven't had time to sit down to it yet. But last night I decided to open up a session and see what this thing could do, what happened to my presets? What happened to some of the other nice presets they had? My shortcuts were all there, but my custom presets gone, and their stock presets like "30 band punch and sparkle", and a few other nice ones in the graphic equalizer were all gone.

Does anybody know how I can load these old presets back in?
