i dont understand the difference between these dj headphones, i got some cheap ones for $10 and they're the same as my friend's $200 pair of fancy headphones

no there not. beleive me. i dont even know the model u have.... but theres a big difference between sound quality, powerhandling, sound output, and wear.... ive used and or owned most model headfones (except for the high end akg 1's) from the 10$ koss to the 200$ sonys and theres a difference.

one of the major differences between the more expensive headphones and the low cost are the frequency ranges they pick up. If your using headphones for critical listening on your mixes you need to pickup a pair of cans that pickup a wide range, otherwise your not going to hear everything in your mix. Sure the cheaper headphones may "sound" good but they don't give you a very accurate picture of your music, they're just meant to sound loud which some people assume as being better. For serious mixing though switch between the headphones and your best studio monitors.
