Assignable Outs on MPC for better mix

Could somebody tell me how this this works? Do you assign the bass and kicks to one, snares and hi-hats to another, guitar/piano to another, etc, then mix?

i do kick to 1, snare to 2, hi-hat to 3 ect.

When you install the 8Outs board, does the MPC automatically recognize it?

yes
