ASR 10 Keyboard Vs. Korg Triton?

so what we got here is an old sampling keyboard versus a state of the art piece of machinery.

some people have told me to go with the asr 10.
but what i don't understand is ... is the asr popular for it's sampling capabilities or it's sounds?

i know the triton is popular for it's "sound" and not necesarilly it's sampling/sequencer features.

if ya got a mpc already, then triton would be better. its sampler is aiight, but the sequencers whack. the asr 10 is better for sequencing. if u want more synth sounds, triton. but if ur lookin 4 a production station. asr 10.

Hey,

If money is not an object, get the Triton: it comes with sounds, effects, and a resonant filter. Last time I checked, the ASR-10 didn't.

Both are awsome Keyboards......

I'd say the issue with the ASR-10 is that its been discontinued. Finding memory...and other accesories to go with it is hard.

As for the Triton....you can get anything for it....its fairly new.

To make the murder complete..I'd go with the Triton first...and then if you got the money to purchase an ASR....then buy it. An ASR, TRITON, and MPC = power studio.

LOL i feel you dawg i have the LE, the sounds of the triton are much over hyped i guess when your in the final production stages in a big studio they can compress the sounds and tweak them so they sound completly different than anything you can do at home. The triton is much over hyped.

You hate the Triton? WHOA....thats the first.

First off lets clear some shyt up...... The neptunes use a zillion sound modules bro, and Dark Child is strickly Korg and Roland shit.

The whole point to being a producer is being innovative, and bring'n a different sound. Your not going to be able to find your own sound if your trying to make tracks like someone else.

Now I know you can bang out some killer tracks on that joint. The sequencer on there stinks...but the board its self is powerful. If those sound on there dont do it for ya...try some different expansion boards...or modules.

I know my shit....:booty:

You cant make an original track with the triton alone, using all those presets that hundreds of people have used is not very orirginal you have to get your own synths and incoorperate the korg with other things.

I agree with BeatOff and Osset. I used to want a triton but now that thing sounds corny to me. Atleast too corny to use on its own. Its cool if you have that and other synths and samplers working together but I wouldnt use it on its own. I just dont see whats so powerfull about it. Non of the patches sound like the original instrument, they all sounds like some fake, tweaked out, over processed version of the original instrument. If you want real instruments you're better off getting a good sampler and a bunch of akai libraries. And as far as the synth capabilities, I'm not really impressed either. Theres a lot of synths out there that are way more powerful. Anything by Novation, Clavia, Waldorf etc. And to top it all off all the patches have been used to death. If you want your shit to sound like everybody elses the triton is the way to go.

Well...My experiance with the Triton has been great. I use it with the a few Emu modules...and a roland module...and my MPC 2000XL.

ONE!

Hey,

Remember that guys in the 80's were making tracks with only drum machines and old samplers which have less processing power than the remote control for your tv's today...I don't think that anyone here will debate that these tracks were innovative and very good.

There is a problem with musicians in all genres: they think that gear=good tracks. Rock bands want lots of guitars, amps and effects pedals; techno guys want lots of synths; hip hop guys want the MPC2000 and a Triton...

The Triton is technologically one of the best synths on the market today, and it has great sounds on it to boot. Korg have been in the business making innovative products for almost 40 years now, they have the resources and experience to understand good sampling and mapping as well as cramming high end features into a single keyboard.

The guys who make the presets for synths don't always feel the pulse of what everybody wants in the future, they can only make sounds based on current or past trends. It takes the people who buy these synths to sit down, open them up and learn how to make them 'talk' they way they want them to. Look at the 808...that thing was designed to replace a drummer in a band, it took someone with some vision to turn up the kick drum and program funky drum patterns in it.

I don't think that anyone would disagree with the fact that the 808 has great sounds and is still a hot commodity in hip hop production, yet the Triton has thousands more sounds on it (including 808 samples)...make the Triton your bitch, become its pimp, and it will pay you back ten-fold.

Take care,

Nick

I'm just not feeling the triton not everybody is going to like it, it has 838 presets not thousands and i'd say more than half are un usable unless your going to make trance. Most people i know with a trion only use it for a couple of sounds at best, i'm one of them, the percussion part is good and some of the leads but everything else not really. Its like they put the best sounds on the expansion chips. I'm gonna buy a couple more Expansion cards just to make it more flexible because right now unless i wanna bite the neptunes or make some trance its pretty much useless if you want to be original.

Hey,

The Triton has 838 PRESETS...you can't just expect to buy a synth and have it make the beats for you!

If you don't like the presets, make your own; the OS and touch screen interface is why you paid around $2000 for it, I can assure you that the sounds on it are no better than the sounds found on an $800 Roland XV-5050 module...they were put there not to give you bragging rights or to impress your friends, but to dig deep into the sounds and allow you to tweak them so that they DO become the 'tight' sounds you've been looking for.

People making trance music are saying the same thing as you guys here, "its presets are not usable", but instead of complaining about it they press some of the buttons on that gorgeous screen and twittle with the knobs until they get the sounds they need.

Come on guys, it seems like a lot of you are looking to get rich and famous without even trying, its as if you feel its your God-given right to make good music and get paid lots of money...

A good producer will make a good track with anything, even a crappy little Casiotone from K-Mart.

Briellz is 100% correct. Not just with the triton but, with any board, it pretty much depends on the programmer. If you are not creative it transcends thru your music. ie: For years I was a deejay who couldn't afford a set of 1200's so I settled for a sub-standard pair. All of my partners had 12's but they sucked. I was better than they were and they had the tihs. Moral to the story is, because I experimented and strived for more creative sounds and scratches all my mix tapes were better. Just be creative! There are ways of finding your sound and style and it is basically called "creativity" Peace to Briellz 'cuz he knows the game. Peace in not out!

is that really true can you really erase all the preset slots and and just make up your own sounds that you create or do you just mean the user spaces they give you...cause if you can really can program the whole keyboard i would buy it right now....i feel 128 user spaces are good on the motif but i would feel god with 500 or so...
