Are rap concerts worth goin to?

a lot of the concerts ive been to weren't all that great...either the sound was terrible or the rapper's whole crew was rapping the songs at the same time.

curious to what other people think

illest hip hop show i went to was rza at the state thatre in maine,i t was a hike from boston but it was worth it. not to sound like a groupie but there wernt too many heads there and i was right up against the stage and rza gave me dap durin a song that made it that much iller but as for the sound the pa had a good mix and eveything was straight it was mostly rza and a few heads from black nights backin him up but they wernt finishin lines for him they were pretty much harmonizing what he was saying from time to time it was ill

ive seen dope local acts, Sage Francis, Aesop Rock and Mr. Lif.

tomorrow im seeing Diverse, Peanut Butter Wolf and Madlib!

I've been to a couple really good shows, Went and seen the Creative Differences Tour with Busdriver, 2mex & XOXOXLOOX(w/e his name is), Eyedea and Abilities, and Living Legends (whole crew was there) all those people put on excellent shows, thats what they do!!

Then other show i seen this year was Heiroglyphics, that was crazy. Saw Little Brother (9th Wonder freaked a beat from his laptop in about 5 min and Little Brother killed some freestyles, saw Encore, Z-man, then hiero did like 3 group songs, Souls of Mischief did there thing as well as Encore.

So shows are super dope to go to, plus i always go to peep what kinda shit there selling, usually u can pick up some concert only tapes or LP's.

I think we need more Concerts. Thats the whole problem these days. Cats don't want to earn their money! This is how they make thir money anyways! Because obviosly alot,,,and I mean ALOT of them aint gettin paid for writin their hits,,,wink,,,wink!

Hey,

Rap 'concerts' have been the biggest pieces of crap I've ever seen:

1. Half the time they don't show up.
2. When they do show up, they're drunk or stoned.
3. Their 'posse' messes things up, either by rapping too loud over the lead rapper, or they just look like idiots.
4. They perform for something like 20 minutes and STILL charge a ton at the door.

Let's remember that rappers are basically egotistical ignorant fools who think the world owes them a living because they can make a few words rhyme and they decided that pulling one pant leg up was a good idea.

I'm not saying that all rappers are like this, but in my experience of trying to see a few shows over the years (none) and a few open mics, plus trying to deal with these clowns in the studio, your best bet is to turn on BET and crack open a cold 40.

the problem ive experienced with live shows is that they crank the bass up so much, it's hard to tell what song's playing half the time.

Personally I havent been to any major rap concerts.
But I feel what vitaminman is sayin. Most rap concerts offer nothing more than:

1. a 'crew' of 'rappers', usually dressed in throwbacks and hanging towels over their necks
2. a track playing
3. a DJ (maybe)

I dont wanna pay that much money to go see two or three fools shouting over a beat. When live music is invloved, or some type of 'show' like the Up In Smoke Tour where they have dropped deuces and fireworks goin off and all kind of crazy junks goin on, then it makes it much more worth it. Unfortunatley it hard to 'spot' a good rap concert when it comes. Hell most of the 'Late Night Show' performances for rap artists are laughable. Concerts and tours are a major source of revenue for any artist, so I think that more should be put into them. If not then they shouldnt cost an arm and a leg.

i went to the same show except it was in vermont ..same thing small venue and evrything......that shit was ill.. we were like the only ones in the concert with trees on me so they let us backsatge with all of them... shit was proper

yeah I agree rap concerts can be both awesom or a complete waste of time. I think it comes down to who is performing.

Having said that I've seen;
- Snoop Dogg (with Bad Azz)
- Lost Boyz
- Tha Liks

and they were all awesome.

I'm sure I've seen some more too but cant remember them right now.

i've been to quite a few hip hop concerts and about half were good and half were bad. i saw floetry(they had a live band playing so it was tight), kweli(his shit was all right , though a little too bassy), gangstarr(which was pretty much horrible. way too much bass so you couldn't even hear the beat or guru), and common(which is the best show i've ever been to. he had a live band, great sound. everything was crisp and clear); that was all at the same show in one night. i saw dilated and Jurassic 5 and both of their shows had too much bass also but still they were dope. i also saw mos def, kweli, and kanye west which is the second best show i've seen. all three of them killed it. to make a long story a little longer hip hop shows are the shiiiiit! (95% of the time)

but serious, there are a few mcs out there, that make dope music, but they got no stageskills. on the other hand ive been surprised a few times, and after the cocert i got into music which i didn like before.

I think it clearly depends on who tha artist is thats performing. Some fools are straight studio and cant really do shit on stage in a live performance.
