Anyone got this problem with beats?

I have been frustrated that the remixes that I do are always MUCH better than my instrumentals. I don't know why, but it seems like without an acapella I don't have as much motivation, there isn't any direction in which to carry the track. Any of you guys feel this way?

do you rap? Like not actually writing everyday but just that you can lay some verse down? Well I can spit some shit but i barely record thing, and when I make a beat while i'm making it i'm kinda giberishly freestyling and it gives me a direction of my beat.

i understand what you mean but you need to be thinking about the MC when your making your track. even if you dont have a particular 1 in mind you should be planning chorus and verse length as well as drum breaks and breakdowns. then when the MC does his thing you can modify the beat to match his pauses, punch lines, double times etc

Bloody - I can see where yer comin from dog, and can relate to some extent....

See, i dont really have issues with droppin a beat i like without remixing a track, but i can relate to the fact that when theres that missing link, ie. (a actual lyricist to work with and collaborate on a track with, and have to script lyrics too, or the backdoor equivalant - remixing a track thats already been done) , becuase without those i tend to have maybe fewer less ideas of where to take the track next "arrangement-wise" versus when im jus rockin a beat by itself....

I think when working with a prgressive writer in person that changes everything, becuase now u have the ability to sculpt a track around someones style and vibe rather then imagining it.....Thats a big difference if u ask me.

I'm exactly the same... and I dont think it's a bad thing....

when I use an acapella and do a beat that fits the acapella, my beats are way better... Actually, I use that knowledge to my advantage... when I wanna do a smooth beat, I'll try to find an acapella from a smooth beat and do my remix with it! same goes for an banging, hard beat...

Of course, it would be better if I had an actual lyricist to work with (beats wise)... but I'm working on it. I found that cat who kills on the freestyle... I'm trying to teach him to be creative with his flow (I dont rap, but I'm a good teacher :) )

Yeah I think that's great advice because on my instrumentals they don't really have an intro/hook/ending....it's just a loop that goes on for a minute and then it cuts off. But with an acapella I always have everything down and a vision.
