Anyone got any comments/suggestions dealing with books?

Right now I'm primarily looking for books to do with

1)Mixing
2)Music Industry
3)Music Theory(not really needin it as much as the other two)

(in order of priority)


Now... i just bought The Recording Enginner's Handbook, by Bobby Owsinski... its good and has some useful info, but it doesen't really have what I'm looking for....

Right now I'm looking at

The Art of Mixing, by David Gibson
Hal Leonard Sound Advice on Mixing, by Bill Gibson
and that Music Powers book

any body have any comments/suggestions concerning these books?......especially if you have read them before....

I have 'The Art Of Mixing', its very clear and precise with good illustrations. If you have a basic understanding of mixing you will get more from the book because you will already understand the terminology and some of the theory behind mixing.

My 2 cents, make sure you find something up to date and relevant, a lot of the music industry books that I have read are dated, even though some of the processes might be generic, it would be good to do some research on the relevancy so you won't waste time and money, you can't go wrong with a mixing book either but again you need to find something that is closely related to either the gear or processes in your own studio.

I feel like my connections (in contact with people placing joints all the time)and money spent on conferences and organizations I could write a book for the industry(but this ought to show you just how difficult it is to get on the inside connections and having useable music are only the beginning, politics are a whole nother ballgame), Dynamic Producer has the 10 track commandments, that is excellent useable information that has been gathered from gatekeepers, insiders and execs very recently and comes from a culmination of tons of workshops, lawyers that have spoken, artists and producers all the way from Kanye West, Dr. Period, Just Blaze, Rocwilda, Sesac, Ascap execs and on and on, I attended quite a few myself and can attest to what they tell you not just from someone speculating or giving you some amatuerish view of how they think the industry works but the REAL ups and downs, hard knocks on the subject....holla!

as far as theory, nothing beats having someone that knows the subject correctly teach you formally, but if you can't do that the next is self teaching...try
