i heard the vestax one was trash. i seen the vinylrecorder one @ scribble jam a couple years back, they were cutting dubs for people for free. i was told then that they run $2500 but looking @ the web-site, it looks like the starter set-up is $4,213. i have seen one on e-bay go for $1800. ................. formant024.... you got a link for that Neumann vms70/80.
im gonna search the net for info on that one now.

That kingston cutter is made by vinylium (Switserland) www.vinylium.ch/stuka/dubcut.html. The difference between the vms and the dubcutter is that the vms will only make a laquer and not a dub. There's plenty of producers ( mainly in the dance genre, or just anything which basicly releases on vinyl ) that have a vms with their setup in order to master their own laquers as you master and monitor via the control console. The control console mostly contains discrete mastering chain, so you can imagine that a nuemann eq, comp/limiter will sound very nice. The signal from the masteringchain then goes to the amps(2, left and right), the more watt the amps have the louder (and cleaner) the stylus will imprint the signal into the wax. The stylus has 2 coils that vibrate in response to the amplitudes coming out the signal chain, the bigge the tube amps are the louder and more precise the styles will cut the laquer.

The rack that comes with that kingston is the controller, it controls the torque and speed so the playback speed after cutting is equal to its former carrier (the master). This obviously needed since the styles keeps cutting a smaller ring in the exact same rate (33/45). Unfortunately, your 12" will eventualy sound less opposed to the laquer which first maiden spinn's a tease to each audiophile.
