ERIC B just did the cuts. Rakim and guest producers(Bomb squad, Large Professor and Marley Marl among others) did the beats.

check this out :

"ThaFormula.com - Yeah I always wondered, was Eric B the producer and Rakim the MC?

Rakim - Nah, I did most of the tracks. It was just so much that I wanted to bring to the table as far as some of the beats I used to rhyme to in the park and just so many ideas, so we didn't really have to go outside the table. But back then a lot of people wasn't doing it. Everybody was kind of sticking to they own camp.

commercial - timbaland (it really doesn't need any explanation, i don't think. he's doing some of the most exciting shit in hip-hop today, period)

underground - Dan the Automator (in my opinion, the best producer today. he has proven to be capable of producing for any genre, while transcending them at the same time)

old school - bomb squad (you know those little high-pitched sounds that sound like boiling kettles on a few PE tracks? that's what first got me into hip-hop. no doubt)

new school - define new school. how new can someone be to be new school?

ill o.g.
Commercial - Dre (Timb is better in his 1/2-1/2 Commercial:Aaliyah-Tell Me Your That Somebody and like Jay-Z-It's Hot)

Underground - Havoc of Mobb Deep ( a lot wouldnt call him underground anymore but hes not fit for any other category)

Old Skool -
Beginning - 89 - Grandmaster Flash (and/or JMJ)
90 - 93 - Dre (and/or RZA)

New Skool - (If New Skool means the future, then) Present DJ's will be the future Producers
