Aiiiight yall...... When I try to hookup my Roland XP-60 to my MPC 2000xl, I'm running into a problem. I can hit the keys on the Roland and hear the sounds I have loaded up on the MPC, but I cannot figure out how to be able to play the sounds on the Roland and record live on the MPC. Hell this is the 21st Century its gotta be possible!! Help @#$@#$@ help!!

man.. look at what u're trying to do and say.. the MPC is a... "SAMPLER"... meaning u can make and use "SAMPLE (small pieces of music) you can't record Full pieces you need a digital recorder for that.. but i u're just trying to record sample of ur keyboard to the MPC.. make sure the audio OUT frm your keyboard is running into the audio IN of the MPC and ... the midi OUT frm the MPC should be in the midi IN of the keyboard and vicevera on the other cable... make sure u set you flywheel to midi and whatever channel u're using ie: 1 or 2

no man, check your local setting in the midi settings, it should be set to on by default. Switching it to off will diable the use of the functions except for the keys so in order to play you need to select the midi track with midi out assigned to the roland.

I think u want to use like bass, guitar, ect.. from your keyboard if so u dont need to sample it into the mpc. It can all be done via MIDI.

Connections:
MPC MIDI OUT to Keyboard MIDI IN
Keyboard MIDI OUT to MPC MIDI IN

Settings:
Keyboard:Turn Local Controll OFF
MPC:Set the track to MIDI and Select a channel that corresponds to the channel the instrument u want to use is using.

Example: Bass is MIDI Channel 5 then set the MPC at MIDI 5A.

Still confused let me know.

No.. I think he wants to sample his keyboard into his MPC misscc803... like he has a hot sound he made on his keyboard and want to sample it into his MPC for usage.... That was my guess... but it seems like he has all the right answers to whtever he needs to do... frm our answers...

Alright, I dont know if it's the same thing, and if it is, I didnt quite well understood the answer, so here goes.

My friend bought a MPC1000 (he wants to start making beats) and a lil midi controller. That was all find and dandy! Now the thing is, he bought a Workstation... a Yamaha PSR1500 to be more precise (sounds are really not that great, but anyhow...) he wants to hook up the MPC to his keyboard so that the MPC controls the keyboard's sound bank and that the keys of the keyboard send the midi info through the MPC.

Basically, he wants to record the midi infos from the keyboard in the MPC and mixing that with the MPC's infos. After, with the MPC sequencer, he wants to be able to have the whole sounds going in the MPC... so the MPC would send the midi info it recorded form the keyboard to the keyboard's soundcard... and sending the sound back to the MPC..... am I clear...? not sure...

Makes sense yea you can do it, check the mpc manual...wow thats rough, the problem is that IS what I would do because I am midi retarted. They usually have a diagram in the book that will show you exactly that..
Im thinking midi out from the keys to the midi in on the mpc then out the mpc to the keyboards in....

...that's what I figured, but then the sounds are not going in the mpc, just the midi infos... but then you could be right... I dont know. The book (and MissCC) talked about local control, but I dont know what's that all about

So in order for you to control program changes such as soundbank scrolling and stuff, you'd need to connect the midi out of the keyboard to the midi in of the mpc and vice versa?

I posted a video up(earlier) of a vid with that guy needlz and his mpc,he usin the mpc's scroll wheel to skim through sounds on his roland rack and the kurzweil synth.

How is that possible?

The sounds can be recorded into the mpc also after the midi data is recorded. If your using a 1k this function is called DIRECT RECORDING. Direct recording doesnt just sequence the midi data it also records it. Since I dont own a 1k thats all I can tell you about it
